I was just reading the report in the Wall Street Journal, and thought about our hobby and what would happen if XD or FOV were discovered with lead paint...now I could care less, as I do not make a habit of chewing on the barrel of my tiger 1 or licking the cameo paint off the wing of Rall’s 109G………But this could really mess up expected production.

Mattel Toys to Be Pulled Amid Lead Fears
In one of the most high-profile incidents yet involving the safety of Chinese-made toys, Mattel Inc.'s Fisher-Price unit will recall 967,000 toys that may contain hazardous levels of lead paint, including items featuring popular characters like Elmo and Big Bird.
Mattel said Thursday that it would adjust second-quarter results by about $30 million to reflect the impact of the recall, according to a filing.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Fisher-Price will voluntarily recall 83 types of toys manufactured between April 19 and July 6, and sold in U.S. stores beginning in May. The commission said the toys use paints that may contain excessive levels of lead, which can be toxic if ingested by children.

I thought ALL lead paint was banned in 1978? Did we just pack up all the cans and ship them over to China?

It goes back to the saying, "You get what you pay for". I think companies that want to try and save a buck by outsourcing jobs (manufacturing, service etc.) are getting what they deserve. Maybe they will think twice the next time this happens?

The real problem in the whole larger picture is not enough Government regulation in China. Which sounds ironic in a country where the STATE controls ALL! This country is also at fault by not inspecting enough of the product China and other countries import into the US.

I would hope the big 3 of our hobby take heed and make sure their contracted factories have good quality control in place, so they won't have delays or poorly made or tainted product.

At least XD is not an edible product that could be contaminated...
