Is this unique?

Post by Airacobra » Mon Jul 16, 2007 7:27 pm

This weekend I picked up a Ridge Runner that was sealed inside a F-104 package at Wal-Mart. I know they ship different paint schemes in different boxes of the same aircraft, but I have never noticed a completely different aircraft shipped in another aircraft's box. Anyone else find any P-51's packed in a F-104 box?

Someone probably bought the Starfighter, stuck the Mustang in the box and returned it for a refund. Many WM employees would never notice the switch. I've seen a lot of these switches with 1:18 aircraft and 1:32 armor.

That was my first thought, but the package is absolutely mint, and the tape is flawless. After I brought it home I compared it to all my other 21st aircraft of the same scale and the tape used is the identical width. I'm not completely doubting that someone switched out aircraft to make a few bucks, but if someone did, they are artists. I have tried many times to peel that damn tape back without showing any signs of tampering but I have never even come close to how perfect this one looks. Either way, it's still interesting. Hey Mighty Mustang, you aren't running around the Twin Cities swapping planes are you?

It was probably a switch. The tape can be replicated easily. The fact that the P-51 is in an F-104 box would not really increase the value.

I have a CIA Huey in a green Huey box. I think its pretty common. I dont think someone switched your bird but I doubt that it will be more collectible than anything else.

I'm never seen a RR at any of the Wally Worlds in my area...got a lot of F-104s though...

I'd rather keep the RR than return it. :p51:

LOL! Nope but thanks for asking! Someone pulled a fast one though I will say that. It just goes to show ya how Wallymart customer service reps could give a damn about whats being returned. What Walmart did you find that at Airacobra? If its the one on University Ave then its no surprise at all.

I think you could put a Star Wars X-Wing fighter into a P-51 box and the Wally workers would never notice. :P

 Yup, it was the one off University. I went there hoping to snag a few new planes but that was the only one left. I did however, grab an Old Crow at the Elk River location, and both of the Pearl Harbor P-40's at the Woodbury location. There were still a couple Old Crows at the Elk River location and I was going to grab one for you, but I wasn't sure if you wanted the 21st version or the BBI version. I have been to five different locations just to find three new planes. Where are the Avengers and Mig's?

Airacobra I havent seen an Avenger at a Wallmart in ages it seems. Not in my area at least. I hate the University location because they always seem to have little if anything new and their Customer Service? It sucks BIG TIME. Of course it was that way when the old K-mart was there as well. I know they have some Old Crows there along with some BBD's and maybe just maybe a Pearl Harbor P-40. I did see some Migs sitting on the very top shelf but that was like 4 days ago so I dont know if they still have them or not. I will check today though

Hey thanks for thinking of me buddy with the Old Crow P-51. I picked one up. Yep at the Unversity location. They had 6 of them stacked on an end cap at the back of the toy isle along with 2 BBD's. Get this. The manager gave me an Old Crow for $30 bucks due to the top of the box was pushed in! Thats tax included! The plane was almost perfect and all parts were there. I got lucky. But again Airacobra thanks for thinking of me. I appreciate it buddy.

P.S: I hate the BBI version of Old Crow. The color scheme is a big turn off for me.
