Which War Items to Collect?

21st has released items on WW2, Vietnam and modern. If you were to concentrate on collecting only one war period which would it be and why? Reason I'm asking is that I have a few items of each war period and I'm thinking of just collecting future releases on only one war period to help curtail the size of my collection in the future.

My vote would go to the WWII.. That era seems to be the more popular choice..

Hi,
It really depends upon which period you find the most interesting. Some people find WWI fascinating even though it was largely comfined to static trench warfare. Personally, I find WWII the most intriguing, due to the weaponry, scope of the war, antagonists, camouflage schemes and unit histories. There also seems to be alot more variety in land armament -- light, medium and heavy tanks -- vs. today's main battle tanks. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

For all the reasons Lightning states, I'll go with WW11.
From the sheer numbers of people, countries involved you can spend a lifetime with WW11 differences in equipment, uniforms.
Not to slur any collection involving Korea, VN or modern. I collect all.
Hell, if it's in a uniform or something that shoots, or drives on wheels, tracks, floats or flys, I'll collect it.

I vote for WW2 as well. This era seems to be what toy companies focus on mostly, at least 1:18 scale. Imagine some of the Vietnam figures with the better articulation. We are starting to see more unexpected things like the Panzer. And now that the marines are out its building up.

while there have been many interesting conflicts in human history i think without a doubt WW2 is the most interesting. It's the greatest story ever told. If it were a book or a movie people would think it too far fetched and unbelievable but the fact is it all happened..

How big do you want your collection? If space is not an issue than WWII for sure
For all the reasons above and because you're bound to have the greatest selection of pieces from that era.

i'm a nam fan, wish they would release more, but thats just my personal fav, as for what sells, i think WWII has proven itself to be the big mony maker, so if your looking for quantity, WWII is where all product is at.

If I had to choose one era, I would collect WWII era products. Those constitute the bulk of my collection already. However, I may not be the best example, as considering both 21c and BBI, I have dabbled in all represented eras, having vehicles and aircraft from the WWII, Viet Nam, and Modern periods.

Thanks guys for your comments. I was leaning towards WW2 and I will probably go that route since the variety of weapons and vehicles are the greatest.

I'd concentrate on WW2 personally... and if I had to limit further, then the European theater of WW2. World War was and probably will be the last time the might of the sleeping giant will ever be awaken. It was the last TRUE world war, and the last time where the world was angry at the USA for not doing anything (being neutral) originally

The stories are amazing. Each and every person who served as a different story that boggles your mind. I'm sure I'm not alone when I am flipping channels on the TV and go past the Discovery Wings channel or the History channel and see a WW2 program, you stop. And instantly get hooked. ALmost any subject from WW2, but you get hooked.

I most heartily agree- I find myself learning new info all the time from these and other sources. As a matter of fact I have a client that was a Seabee on Iwo Jima. He has saved alot of clippings and reports from the time in the Pacific theater. It is amazing to talk to him about what happened.

It has to be WW2 just by virtue of the number of choices in weapons and participants.

WWII was such an awesome and important historical event and we should all feel lucky that we have lived when there were still many veterans alive to recount their stories. I feel sorry that my future children will not have had that experience and their only contact with that event will come from the media, museums, and, God forbid, the schools.
I take such a negative attitude towards the relation between WWII and education as that pivitol event is continually washed over - not only in high schools, but at the higher levels as well. I have taken at least 6 History classes (for the History major) that were supposed to cover WWII in their course description. All of them either severely glossed over it, or simply ended the course just as the war started or just after it ended. There are classes that rightly cover such related asepcts as the Holocaust and Japanese atrocities, but there is no detailed survey course about the years between 1939 and 1945. I am practically to the point of seriously wanting to become a professor of Modern World History so that I can teach a survey course solely on WWII covering in as much detail as a 10-12 week quarter system will allow, the battles, the technology, the politics, as well as the experience of the soldiers and civilians.
Sorry for the off topic rant, its just that this is one of my favorite periods in history (I'd almost rather have been born 80 some years ago!) and no one adequatly teaches it!

Tman:
Sounds like a good idea, but you'll never get a University interested and you'll never get it the kids of today to take an interest.
Young people today (with few exceptions) have short attention spans. They are smarter than us but TV as a baby sitter stifles many of them.
It's up to us to get them interested and away from the TV. My three all mine have my interests in mind along with their own. They grew up going to museums and MV shows, air shows and appreciate what our military has done for them and us all. Sorry for the rant..........
I'm gonna take a pill and play with my toys and dollies now.
