32x has 'em, why don't we? Vehicle playsets!
A fellow board member commented to me that it was kind of odd that the Firefly and 155mm Howitzer appeared as playsets before they were released as individual pieces. I agree, but it got me thinking. Even though I am not a 1/32 collector, I have thought about picking up a couple of the 21st playsets or FOV vehicles because it's like instant diorama. Or at least a big step in the right direction.
As it is now, if us 1/18ers want to create a simple diorama comparable to what is available in 32x, we have to a buy a vehicle and a couple figures from 21st or bbi. Then we have to go to Buld-a-Rama or someplace like that and buy about 5 different items--or build our own pieces. These days, most of the 21st vehicles don't even include crew anymore--just planes (and the PAK-40).
I would happily pay a bit more to have 2-3 figures (exclusive to the vehicle would be cool), and some additional gear/diorama accessories. And no, I am not talking whole buildings or anything like that.
For example: 1/18 PAK-40 with 2-3 crew, a small wall section or sandbag emplacement, the boxes of shells as included as well as some spent shell casings, and maybe a barrel or crate. Raise the price about $10--I think it would sell faster that way than as just vehicles alone (playability/displayability makes a difference), and the higher price should more than offset the added cost (and reduce the number that get sold on clearance).
Just a thought. What do you guys think?
