Small Scale Military Headquarters

Do you guys wargame with the figures or just collect?

I've always had some interest in military figures, GI Joe as a kid, and the new stuff now, but 1:18 seems to be a scale to have some good wargames.

I have too many hobbies (model railroading, airsoft, military books) to dive in whole hog or none, but I like wargaming and diorama building too.

Is that CIA Huey still around?

I've never done the wargaming, but just found instructions for an Operation Sandtrap. Its intended for little green army men, so I tweaked it a little to use for my 1/18 figures. I've tried it a few times and its pretty fun. If I ever get my outdoor railway cleaned up , I hope to do some outside.

Which scale garden railway do you have? Aristo-craft is 1:29 scale, close enough for government work to 1:32.

You could conceiveably use some of the finer scale track in 1:24 scale to use as narrow gauge in 1:18.

I've used them to represent characters in role-playing games but mostly they just sit around making my room look untidy

The "scale" for it is 1:20.3. I use 1:20.3 for the trains, and then mix/match 1/18 and 1/20 for buildings and vehicles. I just ignore the ~10% difference in size. In looking at trains in war zones around the world, I have found some unusual gages that would allow you to use the G-scale track as 1/18 - just can't remember which ones and which era off the top of my head. If I can even find more affordable track, I plan to make a section of track to 1/20 standard gage (affordable because I need 200-300 feet just for the initial right-of-way)

Back to the wargaming, I have a ton of old Decipher CCG from SW that my wife had suggested might work well with the figures. Something like the SHS game. Just to find the time for more playing.

Ah yes. Bachman's F scale. (That is the new letter tag for it from model rails). That would undoubtedly look pretty good. And the 10% is not readily observable. (Model railroader's 2 ft rule: if it looks right from 2 feet out, don't sweat it.)

I love to roleplay and wargame with my figures but it is hard to find people to play with....

An outside dio set-up and some bottle rockets from time to time but I don't think thats wargaming. Just fun! Oh and never hit aircraft or armor unless you've got 4 or 5 extra.

Man can't wait for 4th of july thats when i use bottle rockets with my artillery Man never tried wargaming though

I wargame with the 1/18 stuff. If I can't play with it, I don't really want to own it. I play it with my high school students a couple of times a year. Been using my own home rules for several years now.
