AVENGER DILEMMA: what would you do?

Post by GAU-8 » Thu Jun 14, 2007 9:44 pm

purchased my second avenger at wally world (it was discounted to $23.00!) i HAD to get it at that price.

anyways during assembly, without much pressure, both of the tabs broke off on the right rear wing. (aileron ??? i SHOULD know this, but im lazy..very VERY lazy)

anyways, since it is "broken" and purchased for cheap, i want to crisp/tweak,battle damage it up a lot...and make a nice scene, shadowbox for it , possibly repaint it a historically correct damaged avenger..

BUT... just because its broken (and was cheap)..doesnt mean it cant be fixed. (and worth "more" in the end. the tabs are missing, and there is nothing on the fuselage, or "inseam" on the wing to even try to connect them. what could i do to fix it? there is too much of a curved gap between the two pieces to apply glue.

how would you modelers go about fixing this?

You send me your avenger wheels :D j/k

I would try to return it for a better one....J/k

I would try to fix it it should not be to hard,,,,,

Folkwolf had a mod he did on the FW-190’s flaps where he used metal rods,, I then used his idea to fix my broken tail rudder of the FW-190 along with my flaps.

I took the broken tail ruder split it in half…real easy to do with a hobby knife.
I then cut out to holes that lined up where the tabs lined up with the tail section .
I then took one piece of steel bent in a C shape like this, and bent the edge towards each others so it will stay . I even wrapped some thread around it and then sealed it with super glue to have a nice tight fit.

You should be able to get the C part in by slightly separating the main wing

And the best part is you and move them.

i would get some primacord and blow it up.

seriously just get some brass tube or plastic rod and glue it in place with super glue, then drill corresponding holes in the plane and attach it. dont make them so long as they bump into the other side of the fuselage. ie measure twice cut once. if you are doing a repaint then take the plane apart and repair it with 5 minute epoxy. go to my website and there are pics of the avenger taken apart.

there are few human problems that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives!

My Avenger has the crew door missing and 21sy has no interest in helping me.

I intend on making a custom so paint scheme is not important.

Disappointed :?
