mustang questions

Post by SuRrEaLNJ » Sun Jan 16, 2005 12:39 pm

I am planing on doing a custom of the BBI mustang, and was hoping you guys could give me some help. i know about some of the mods that need to be made, but i was wondering if we could compile a list of mods and details to add for it to be as acurate as posible.
dont worry about things with the paint scheme as i will be repainting it.
Thanks in advance as this will be a great help

so far i know:
The pylons need to be moved out of the ejector port.
Remove the middle tab on the flaps for better travel.
The oleos are moulded in the fuly extended position.
Theres no landing light

As far as I can tell, you got all the major modifications! The repositioning of the wing hardpoints forward is the biggie. You may also want to repaint the navigation lights on the wings, as I think they are reversed. It should be Red on left and Green on right. Then there are the marking mistakes: the O in the "GO * S" ID marking should be a Q and the pilot name should read "Maj. Robert Stephens" as opposed to the current "Capt. John Madden". Thats all I can think of and hope this helps!

I also found that the tail wheel is too far forward. I can be pushed back to a second position halfway that it holds on my plane. Let me know if it works on yours.........

You pretty much listed all the mods that need to be done, nothing major. What paint scheme are you gonna paint yours and why would you want to mess up the paint scheme BBI already did? Killer already is fantastic!

i ws actually planing on painting it in a ficticious scheme that i used on a 1:48 model that i made. i aquired a 2nd one with the intent of doing the mods to it. i couldnt bear to do them to my "killer" and hurt the scheme bbi did. i know its funny to be making the model more scale only to do a fake scheme, but it gives me the liberties to have fun with the scheme and graphics, and not nitpick the paint as i know i cant do as scale of a job with it as i would want to if i picked a real scheme.

anyone have any ideas on the landing light thing?

Ski - ill let you know if the tailwheel thing works

make sure your navigation lights are indeed backwards. Some are correct. The red light should be on the left.

If they are indeed backwards just try popping them out and gluing them in on the other sides.

Making up your own scheme is not a bad thing to do. You can use conventional marking systems and colors of the period but make it like you own bird, how you would decorate it if you had been the pilot...

ski- i got my mustang siting with the tail wheel just before where it snaps into the lock position. seemes to be close to the right spot (from where the wheel is positioned, not the strut) acording to the pics in the squadron walk around book.

im still working on how im going to do this, but i have an idea that if it works will put working oleo struts on it. still need a bit of engineering on the whole idea tho.

heres a few pics of my tamiya 1/48 mustang, wich is the basics of the scheme i want to do for this one: http://community.webshots.com/user/surrealnj

ok- first I must say cool idea on your custom plane. I think that would be good looking, But because you have posted pics of your hobby room and bacause we have done this before in the past to others and it would only be fair. It's time to play the fun game of spot the other stuff in the background! I will start..... I think in the first frame I see a coin, I guessing a Quarter? I also spy what appears to be a candy cane (not to be confused with a 190 D-9 candy cane) but an actual christmas candy cane! Who is next? ;-) just messing with you man, this is just something we do here when people post pics!
