But seriously, that does suck. At least you still have the planes themselves so the only loss would be the packaging. You can always sell them loose and buy back the places in boxes. Sure you will be out the difference but its better than nothing especially if you wanted to save them in their boxes.

It's an oman to open all them up and display them. Something is telling youthat they are not to just sit in their boxes tucked away. Take them out and display them.

fourth of july is just around the corner, you could buy some m 80s and take your other 3 boys to work and let them blow up the planes in the parking lot.......explain to the wife you were just saving them to the fourth as a suprise for the kids

Well I tell you guys there was a little storm down here a few years ago. But my house was safe. It could have been a lot worse . I could have lost everything the XD collection and the helmet collection. Boy do I count my lucky stars.

It's probably a good thing your wife was involved in the birth of your new baby boy or he may have ended up in a box in your office too!

Since the boxes are gone, just do what I have done on occassions... "Hey Honey, look what I got at the thrift store for a reeeeally good deal!"

Seriously, grown men can collect (and even play with if we want) toys. It's perfectly natural.

Sorry for your loss.
I can't really relate to the other problem, though.
I don't broadcast every item I bring home, but neither do I hide them.
See...I've been married for 17 years. My son is in High School. I have a home office piled high with all the tanks and planes and other crap I collect, and more stuff in our storage locker.
My wife is cool, though, most of the time.
I guess I got lucky.
But she knows there are far worse vices a guy can have. I'm no saint, but I work hard, spend time with my kids ( used to be the cubmaster, now I'm a scoutmaster), don't go out drinking with the guys but maybe once or twice a year. I don't spend hours watching sports on tv. I don't chase after other women (though I do look

)
And I do a lot around the house.
To you younger guys, I make this suggestion. Choose your battles carefully!
Makes life a lot easier.

Oh my goodness, wives are really like that with their hubby's?? You guys have to HIDE what you buy because you'll get in trouble??

Me and the hubby have been married over 10 years, and he collects tons of stuff. We live in a four bedroom house and one room is all his for collectibles. He collects 1/18 stuff, star wars, star trek, Planet of the Apes, Looney Toones, stamps, and on top of that he builds his own stuff sometimes and has tons of scraps for spare parts. I don't care one bit, I'm not his mother I'm his wife. I think it's a pity when spouses have to hide things from each other. Like blurx7 says, there are way worse things you guys could be doing than collecting WW2 toys. I'm actually starting to collect 1/32 scale stuff because of the hubby's hobby. Basically what I'm saying is that suck guys!

Yep. Single is easier. Some girls like the collection, some don't. Some could care less. If one of them shows up with a plane or tank I don't have, she might be a keeper

Good point FieroDude. It is usually best to keep the peace at home. I don't think the wife understands my collecting but she tolerates it pretty well. I must say I don't usually braodcast new planes but bring them in and incorporate them into the group. I do have to keep overflow in the barn until I can build a man cave though. Oh well, such is life-interesting that there is good company in the group, meaning there are several of us in similar collecting situations.

all though newly married myself, i have never kept anything secretive from my wife (dated for 7 years).

i have learned his too many times, and dont fall into the karma "trap" by not playing it. IF someone cant deal

if these were held out "IN SECRET" during the purchases....she may as wonder what else you might not be telling her.

if it hasnt been brought up yet, dont act like it was a "SECRET" and the secret just escaped.....just tell her something like. "well i know you didnt want to deal with all the aircraft, so i have been keeping my hobby away from you..so i dont stress you out"...dont act like you were HIDING a secret..act like you were PROTECTING HER from your "crazy hobby".
