21c projects that never "got off the ground"

While we are waiting for 21st Century to give us the "News is on the way! Including a new mystery project!" update, I thought it would be a good time to remember projects that never made it to the toy shelfs. I saved a few images from some old 21c promos

Other projects that I don't have pictures of include "A bridge too Far" Panzer IV & M4 Sherman and SAHARA UH1-C Huey & M48 Patton Tank.

ANY others?

Wasn't there a 1/18 Sahara M113 and Jeep in there somewhere, as well?

Technically, I consider the Legends series Pappy Boyington Corsair and Platoon figures in this category too--they were announced before or right when I got into this hobby 3 years ago, and I'm still waiting and wondering if they will fade away again like last time.

Good thread. I've been wanting to post this for a long time.

These are from Toy Fair magazine in 2003.

I scribbled out the 1/32 scale stuff. There's a nice Viet Nam boat on the first page. I guess it's MIA.

Personally, and only in the interests of saving time, I consider 21'c stuff to have not got off the ground until it shows up retail. Yikes, have I really gotten that cynical?

kevrut: Are your circles the ones that you think haven't been done (because the "Snake" Stuka was my first plane!) or is that a personal checklist. Interesting to note that they had a 1:18 Little Bird planned as well.

The 1/18 Patrol Boat says 2nd Quarter 2004. :?

1/18 M38A1 w/105mm Recoilless Rifle (1st page,bottom left..) says 2nd Quarter 2004.

1/18 ME-262 / 2nd Quarter 2004.

Plane nuts, I think I circled the ones I had at the time.

The bridge... Without a doubt, the single coolest thing XD that never was.

as a broken bridge missng it's center or as a kick butt shorter but complete bridge, the thing is incredible in any photo it ever appeared in, it's massive, and just would've been the centerpiece of every XD collection had it gotten made I think.

The Nam Hootch is pretty slick too though and would be appreciated even by non-Nam collectors (myself included there) for Japanese/Marine dios now too.

Kev, Compfire, PM's sent..

Agree with you guys. Four or five of those hootches would have made a nice Vietnam setup.

And that huge government building..

How about the Panzer III in 1/6 and RC? A prototype was made and then the project died. Why?

The 1/6 Stuart in RC or the even better static version was a hit. Almost every 1/6 guy in the wotld has at least one.

It's a mystery to me why 21C left the 1/6 Stuart alone with nothing to do battle with except big buck Panzer III's, IV's, and Panthers and Tigers

21C had everything right with the Stuart....wa hoppen?

the PBR and Skdfz 222 are the ones i lament the most. Say, maybe the new armour is the 222??

The PBR i can still see being a go when they introduce the Vietnam line again. They seem to be putting a fair bit of effort into the line, with 2 big planes and a bunch of figures, so maybe the PBR will be made at long last too...

I would be soooo happy if this would be the case. The 222 is a great vehicle and I'm waiting since many years for it.

I remember a lot of single figures and figures sets that were shown at toyfair and have never been released. A few tank drivers (paint variations), a set of german paratroopers etc.
I would be extremely happy about a german paratrooper set, or at least a re-realease of the existing paratrooper wave.

I couldn't agree more! So many WWII battles involved taking, defending, or destroying bridges. Any half-way decent bridge would make a wonderful focal point for any diorama--let alone one that looked as sharp as 21st's!

I was thinking the same thing, Aferguson. I though it would be a 222 all along.

Did the very first series radio operator 1/18 WWII American figure ever come out?

I wonder if there is a place where all of the card back images are shown. Starting from Series 1 to now that is.

I think we can put the Pak 40 Hanomag on this list!

I hope not. The last wave was the 2 Hanomags, the pak 40 and the US halftrack. I hope the next wave will be the Pak 40 halftrack and the 88. Maybe this "mystery armor projekt" will be part of the next wave, too.

I hope so, I really love that model!

I'm not really into the Vietnam stuff but that Sheridan is sweet. 8)

tk, do you mean the figure card backs or something else?
