Packing a Tiger....

I have been wanting to sell this Winter Tiger for a long time but the box is so huge I was having trouble finding a shipping carton for it. Well I found a 20x18x18 box and at 20 inches itself the Tiger fits in perfectly. The inner flaps rest right on the ends of the Tiger box, there is no bulging or anything and when the rest of the box is filled with peanuts any weight should be spread out evenly. I also plan to place a sheet of plastic between the box and the Tiger.

Does this sound ok to you guys who have shipped 1:18 tanks? I'm shipping this thing UPS so there will be insurance.

Cut the box down then retape it is too big and will cost more bucks to ship:D

Badcat used to ship their planes in boxes that exactly fit the 21st boxes and I didn't hear of any issues. So butting the ends of the box should be fine.*

yep - big box - can use a smaller box that almost fits the tiger box.
newspaper or peanuts can pad the sides. Id ball up news paper actually.

I know there is a ton of space on the sides but I haven't been able to find a 20" box with smaller width. I'm not sure how to cut the box to make the width less either.

I agree, you don't need that much extra room. Just a tip, if you don't want to buy packing peanuts, you can use wadded up plastic shopping bags. Like all of those plastic Wal-Mart bags that I seem to wind up with.

From the pics, the box is still too big. Too much room on the sides. You don't want to pay the extra postage for all that unnecessary room. I'd try and locate another box or as others have mentioned, cut the box to fit the tank box.

Well I have never cut down a box before so I'm afraid to try this one since I had to pay for the box. I was never able to find another box that could take the 20" length of the Tiger and not have way too much room on all the sides. If anyone can give me any pointers for cutting down a box then please do.

I've shipped all kinds of stuff but this thing is a PITA!

From what I can see of the box, the length is about right but the height and width are two large. Here is what I have done in the past.
1 measure the tiger box and write idown the new dimensions.
2 find the box seam where it was glued together. Should be length wise on that box. Carefully break or cut the seam.but leave the tab intact You should now have a flat piece of cardboard.
3 Measure and mark the new dimensions for Height and width on the box starting with the end that has the tab that was gkued. You will need that to reglue the box.. If you have a t-square or long straight edge works best.
4 Using the t-square or staright edge or a staright counter top edge fold the card board to your new measurements.
5 You should now have a box of smaller size. check to see it the tiger fits it and cut off excess cardboard. Then reglue box and then tape joint. let set for a day with a weight on it to make sure joint stays together while glue dries. Then tape up rest of box with Tiger inside. Dont be cheap with the tape.

Thanks Grockwood! The straightedge was the key to perfect folds. I'm not sure why I didn't think of that one before.

Anyhow, I made a box that fits perfectly. I put the Tiger box inside and taped the outside of the seam and one end of the box. Took it out and put some glue on the inside. I tape the hell out of every box I send to a buyer whether a USPS "self seal" Priority box or a plain cardboard one so there should be no problems there.
