Small Scale Military Headquarters

I have a feeling that this question has been asked before, but why were the combat command figs made so poorly? I'd seen them at Target a while back and passed on them because they looked horrible. I was just over at Badcat and ran across them again. I had forgotten how bad they were until I seen them again close up. I guess they would be good for fodder though. Are any of these figs worth buying? Has anybody used them for any custom jobs? Ok thanks fellas.

I have picked up a couple packs as just that: custom/cannon fodder. Good for filling seats, just keep them out of the publicity shots. But they are cheap, and at the time, TRU and WM were both new figure wastelands....

The figures are crap! They belong in the garbage. On the other hand, the weapons are fine. They need to be "tweeked" a little and painted. The best part of the figures, besides being inexpensive, are the packs and rucksacks. They have a lot of uses and promise. I repainted mine the correct colors, added some detail and then weathered them. Now they are on my custom M1A2 Abrams and look great. The bottom line is: If they are cheap enough, buy 'em. Keep what you want and can what you don't!

The figures are not perfect but some of the figure concepts are really nice and different from the previous figures.
I have a bunch to complement my Army figures.

Thanks fellas, My main question is however, why did BBI make such poor quality figures, when thier other products are some of the best on the market? It really confuses me.

I think the discussion went like this:

Target: "We would really like to carry some of your military toy products, but your Elite Force line is simply too expensive."
bbi: "Well, we could offer something that would retail for about 70% of the regular Elite Force price, and reduce the number of accessories."
Target: "Now you're talking! So what can we get for 25% of the regular price? As long as the arms and legs move, it should sell."
bbi: "Here are a couple figures that one of our designer's sons mocked up during 'take your kid to work' day. We could probably do something with these, as long as we don't have to put the Elite Force name on them."
Target: "Deal!"

Those little suckers look as if they have got knock-off/dollar-store heads on em. They are very crazy looking.

Do they have those PTE type rubbery soft weapons? Looks like it in the pics. Bleh.

To answer your question, it would appear that at the last minute someone at BBI decided to lower costs on these.

Compare the painted prototype figures on the back of the package of to the final product. There is a major difference in the paint schemes/quality/detail!

Had BBI actually made these figures as shown on the cardbacks they would have been real winners. Unfortunately, what we got was a slightly better articulated/sculpted version of cheap Chinese knock-off junk.

Really disappointing. However, they are still worth owning.

No, the rifles are the normal BBI 1:18 scale rifles although they have some tabs (purpose unknown?) on the handgrips which can be clipped off.

Some of the other accessories are vastly over-scaled ala Chap-Mei and will probably make a beeline to your trash can.

I will say - they work well with firecrackers, and blasting caps.

Among other methods, countless action figures met their end explosively by my hands. I miss M-80s and m-100s!
