Small Scale Military Headquarters

Hey guys just suppose the big three toy manufacturers made all of our "must haves" in a years time. The B-25 ,24 ,29 Mosquito, Tempest, A-10, King Tiger all the top ten or so "got to have". Would we as collectors want more more more or sit back and rest on our lourels and enjoy life because we have all of our favorites.
If this would happen would the big 3 go out of business? Would the 1/18 scale world dry up? I know if I had my top 10 list filled I would probably just play with what I have and unless something really strikes my fancy would pass on some stuff that is on my so-so list.
Maybe that is why the top 3 are in no hurry to get these planes and tanks out. If they make them and give them to us right away it kills the anticipation and quells the more more more factor.

The big three are not going to produce our "top 10" wish list and all find something else to do with themselves.

If one, goes out of the 1/18 world someone will take their place. Who ever heard of AT in 1/18 two years ago?

If we ever get the "top 10", we'd only start another "top 10". We as collectors will always want MORE........if we didn't want MORE, we wouldn't be collectors.

I hear ya TTT, I think that I have an unofficial list that could very well be endless.
My brother and I collect 1:18, I was discussing with him the other day about the different eras that would interest me; more Vietnam, Civil war, Korea conflict, Wild west etc. - but WW2 keeps us occupied enough as it is.
I think last year was the most I spent on 1:18. This year even tho it will be a big one for 21c & ATi, I will be holding back this year.
What really holds me back is my lack of space and my wallet, but I'm saving up to be like TTT so when I do have it ALL it will have a house of its own

Now WW1 planes can keep us very busy in 1/18 for a long time. That's is something even a groundpounder like me could collect.

There is an endless list of important vehicles in WW2 that have yet to be made in 1/18.........not to mention planes that haven't been made and so far are not planned to be made...

I'll concede that some of the bigger planes we want can only be made in smaller still scale (B-24, B-17, Lancaster, big German planes) but if the B-25 in 1/18 sells as well as we predict, maybe the door will open to twin engined fighters and bombers from half a dozen countries in WW2.

The horizon for 1/18 is limitless.

I still say there is a market for limited production "toys" at slightly higher prices and sold exclusively by our etailers. To hell with TRU and Wallywotld, let us order on the net......

If someone is ready to stop with the top 10, they aren't a very serious manufacturrer There is a whole big world of armour out there to made: We need a sdkfz 251 C model for the DAK and early WW11 campaigns. There is also the 250 1/2 track and the 222 and 232 Armoured Cars. The PZ II and III's. For late war we need Stug's and Jagdpanzers such as Hetzers and the big Jadgs. For U.S units we need M3 and M5 Stuarts, M8 Armoured cars and M20 Utility cars. How about a M3 Scout Car? Easy Eight Shermans and Pershings and M10, M18, and M36 TD. Not to forget the British tanks that fought the DAK. Cruiser and Crusaders and Matilda's and US supplied Grants and Lees with a nice M3 Honey would be sweet. Later UK tanks such as the Cromwell and Churchill and the best of the lot, the Comet along with Bren carriers. need to be made. Then there are the Russian's from the BT7 to the JS3 and the suporting SU85'S and 100'S and 122's that we need to hold the Germans back from the Mother land. There are probably just as many that I have left out.

There is a small version made by Disney. Its about 1:64 scale or so and looks pretty decent

I was just think the other day of makeing one in card stock in 1:72 scale someday.

Hmm i will have to look that one up.

I have 2 or 3 of almost everything that 21st has made in 1/18 scale. There will be a time when I will be running out of room. I have already run out of display room and I am getting close on storage space as well. There may come a time when I have got to start holding back because of space constraints. If I had my top ten that would make me happy and feel all warm inside. It also would make me hold back on the collecting waiting for something else to come out. I did this with the 104 . When it first came out it was so-so in my book. But I fell in love with it later and when it passed threw Wally I let it go and had to turn around and get them from e-tailers.

First thought that sprung to my mind was, once the big three have made my top ten, they'll probably have been in business for a good few hundred years anyway since I don't recall anyone else mentioning the Westland Lynx, BAe Hawk, Renault VAB 4x4 or the Cadillac-Gage V150
So it doesn't matter what they make, someone somewhere will want it (well, almost anything!) so I don't think that lack of ideas will make them disappear.

Anyway, once they finish with the military hardware, they could always start on other stuff... construction machinery - diggers, plows/graders etc - always seem to sell quite well, and there is a whole load of people out there who collect such models who may well jump at the chance to get something bigger than the "normal" 1:50th or 1:64th they seem to get.

And there's always science-fiction and scince-fantasy as well, from exploring alien planets to the slightly iffy scince of Jurassic Park etc (and don't forget the P40 from "Sky Captain"). There's plenty of inspiration for all sorts of vehicles, equipment and figures that doesn't run foul of copyright or licencing; the Chinese company Chap Mei seems to do okay for ideas and I can't see the Big Three having too much difficulty mining the same idea sources as CM do...

Well so far the "big 3" has come out with everything that I have wanted. The Spit, Mustang, and Corsair. I now wait for the SBD, Hellcat and yes a B or C Model Mustang. If I had these would I call it quits? I might but that I cant say right now. Would the "big 3" go out of buisness? Hell no because there are too many of us that collects this stuff and we will keep on doing it. After the Dauntless and Hellcat come out and I get them will I retire and hang it up collecting my beloved 1/18th planes? I just might but the "Big 3" will be around for a long time, long after I hang it up thats for sure.
