I know this should go in the Avenger thread, but it might get lost in there
Anyways, in regards to the 21c "Flight 19" Avengers, should the landing gear struts be painted a different color, other than the same dark blue that the rest of the aircraft is painted in? Also, what color should the interior of the wheel wells be? I've tried to reference this, but the only photos of the actualy Flight 19 Aircraft are of little use.
Thanks for any help

Hey tman
I tried to find what you are looking for in a Few of the books that I have, not much luck however. I did find some photos that I have of a Corsair and a Skyraider of about the same color they had the struts painted the same color as the rest of the aircraft. The two Avengers that I have pics of have White gear struts and wheel wells, also the inside of the wings are painted white, but the aircraft are not the same color as the Flight 19 birds. I know that it is not much help if any. I don't have alot on Navy birds. The books that I checked were Navy Air Colors,Bent And Battered Wings and No Easy Days. Maybe someone else will come thru for ya Good Luck

Hi Tman,
I have a few pics... somewhere.
Here is one. The undercarriage is painted non specular sea blue, only the wheels are aluminium, but they are just unpainted. To me the 21st Avenger is historically correct.

Thanks

All your info really helps! I was thinking about painting the Avenger's wheel struts, but I'll leave them as-is
BTW, is there a pilot in the cockpit of that Avenger in the photo?

I have seen late World War II navel aircraft with the dark blue painted on their landing gear struts in magazines and books.
