Use to be that'd it'd be saved to the clipboard as a BMP. Start a new Image file your favorite way and paste it into it. Edit it with in your Image s/w.

The clipboard, (if it's still called that) is just a buffer for "copy/cut and paste". You'd need a special viewer to see what's in it. That's why you need to paste into a new image or doc to see it. Sorry that I don't recall if it's control or shift.
