A Hint at the Future
On Friday, I got an email from 21st with an update on my Tender Terror. (Agast, still nothing... )
Besides letting me down gently with thanks for my patience, they gave me a little hope by dropping a hint that we will get news this week about their first foray into modern 1:18 aircraft.

I'd gotten an email from 21c once concerning the availability of the plugs on the wallyworld avenger. It started with a message that was passed on from them to this board that most likely they will be available, just e-mail them and let them know. While it was not a certain thing, it was encouraging enough to buy one and let them know. The response I received was enough that I will never try it again and let me know they are tired of dealing with their customers. It was a very sad day. Has anyone heard anything positive on these plugs or is it a bygone thing?

First foray into modern aircraft, eh? This should be interesting... I'll be polite and keep my initial reaction to myself. Maybe we'll finally see our A-10 after all. Or 21st s going to produce an adversary for our bbi F-16s and F/A-18s? We'll see,I guess. Then again, what is the date?

they may be referring to the F-4, not realizing you're a member of this forum and therefore already 'in the know'.
With all the planes that 21c has announced recently, two of them really big, i can't see them making another really big plane as well; at least not right now.

I'm pretty sure they know who I am!! I wouldn't think it too hard to figure out who the one with the missing Tender Terror is!!aferguson wrote:they may be referring to the F-4, not realizing you're a member of this forum and therefore already 'in the know'.

But it's not the F-4, though I don't really consider the F-4 modern. Even the "Teen" series planes are being supplanted by new generations. And I never said it was big! In fact, one of their hints made it sound like it would fit in the standard XD box and planogram.
Like I said, it was a hint...and I'm not too sure what exactly the hint is pointing at. I have my guess of course, but I'm doing a ton of research right now to see if what I think it is fits.

"You will be happy to know next week we will announce the revival of the Ultimate Soldier Modern series in our Xtreme Detail 1:18 scale line, which will be in stores around May. The line of vehicles, figures, and aircraft focuses on Special Forces operations in the Global War on Terror. The first aircraft is a concept never produced as a scale toy before, and will be available at the standard 1:18 price point."

Never released as a scale toy, eh? Definitely rules out the A-10 and if you count Franklin Mint as a scale toy (noting that nothing specified WHAT scale), rules out the Harrier, too. Predator sounds like a real possibility, considering the global war on terror clue. If it goes beyond aircraft, possibly a Stryker vehicle (which I would love to see someone make).
Of course, if we want to allow for the enemy, maybe we can get an 80's era Toyota pick-up with a machine gun mounted in the bed, complete with sheet metal shield. Along with VW minivans (troop transport), bicycle bombs and exploding donkeys.
Actually, I keep hoping someone will do SOMETHING "modern" and Russian. Hind, T-72, Su-33, Mig-29, something!

I was thinking it might be the Predator as well, would make a nice entry level 1:18 model for cheap, but then I thought that Three Tough Trucks and VMF115 really needed to learn the rules of a proper AFD joke...commit to it, let it simmer, but don't forget to make it realistic.
Oh, and VMF, yours might have been good, but you can't pull the trigger at 3 am!!!
