lost in the desert

Post by pickelhaube » Sun Mar 25, 2007 10:07 am

This XD dry spot is killing me. It is like I am lost in the desert with nothing in sight. You go to Wal-Mart nothing. E-tailers nothing new, just pre-orders. Is there no hope? Wait till April. Will April be our salvation? Will something new be out? Should I get a life?

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, it's pretty dry in these parts as well. Nothing at all new, and not even very much of the old stuff. I sure hope this Spring sees an improvement.

I can relate to the feeling--right now, there is nothing out there that falls into the "must-have" list. Or even in the "would be really nice" list. I had been thinking about the bbi Pave Hawk, now that it's available again, but it just doesn't interest me enough to justify the expense and space. Once upon a time, the Legends series Corsair and the Flight 19 Avengers were on the list, but since they got delayed so long, I lost interest and found alternatives. So now, I am kind of in a holding pattern until the next aircraft and armor are ready to go. The most promising release is the Dauntless--I am pretty confident we'll see it on schedule this summer. Since no firm timeline has been announced for the Skyraider, it's not on the official list yet. Anything else is too far out or indefinite to even consider. I suspect either AT or 21st will have the F-4 out by spring '08, but that is a long time away. And I have since taken the Me-262 Nightfighter and PAK-40 Hanomag off the list, since I figured they should have been out by now and now have serious doubts that we will see them before fall or later. Alternative hobbies, here I come for the interim.

It's not just 21C either, my other interests as well, matchbox cars have empty pegs, the Star Wars figures are leftovers.

My local wm redid a whole section top to bottom with spiderman 3 stuff.

As the guy said, time to catch up on other hobbies.

The only bright spot for me is the 1/16 rc tanks I ordered should be here in a few weeks.

January through March/April is always dead. I'm sure manufacturers' burn through inventory at Christmas and it takes that long to make new stuff and ship it over from China. Don't worry, May is usually one of the worst months for spending money/best for finding new stuff. Just a little more patience.

You guys have to get a life.

What are you going to do if 21C stops producing 1/18?, and nobody fills the void?

21C did it to 1/6 and we are still soldiering on.

Stay frosty guys. 8) You just never know what surprises are in store for us all.

Ah, if 1/18 were to disappear, it would be a good excuse to expand my airsoft arsenal, add on to the woodshop, and see how many horsies I can squeeze out of my cars while keeping them marginally legal (or not). Or maybe invest in a 1:1 project or two. We shall see... I am actually confident that 1/18 is far from being dead. Just poor timing and poor distribution make it such that 90% of the new product is crammed into 2-3 months of the year and it's pretty much a wasteland for the rest of the year.

Well, its official. XD has been replaced by Spiderman 3 toys at my local WM. All the 1:18 stickers are off the shelves and pegs. 32x and smaller scales are unaffected and full as usual. :x

I don't mind a few dry spells. I'm not a big fan of a whole bunch of stuff coming up all at the same time, though. Just keep in mind, we should be getting a California Cutie just about any day now, and we know that the BBD is stateside and being moved out to be sold in a matter of days. I know that I like this pace better than some of the frantic nature for other toy lines.

That being said, I saw a 109G today that I had never seen before. It was Black 1, in a yellow band, and a mostly white tail. I liked it a lot (almost bought it) but I thought I would ask if it is a new scheme or one that came at the same time as the Seeman's et al.

Plane Nuts, The Me-109 is the Hakyl or is it Hakil they have it on Bad Cat's web. Those never made it down here but a whole lot of red tulips and Seeman's did :D I scored on the Seeman for $15. :D :D :D I would be happy to get the black 1. But alas.

pickelhaube: It doesn't look quite the same, but has everything that is on the one I saw!! Thanks for the pointer...I can't remember having seen that one before, but between Hakl, Sahl, Rall and Seemann I don't remember which ones I have!!! I really liked the one I saw today, and now looking on Bad Cat I can't remember if I ever bought Seemann (which I know I wanted).

This is why we don't need four repaints of the same plane coming out at the same time!!! :?

I just use the dry spells to resupply the piggyback for the next wave of new stuff that is coming out. :D

1:18 is history at one of my local WM. Replaced by Spiderman. Tags and skus gone from the shelves and pegs. 32X, 1:48 and the tiny planes and tanks are still there though. No big suprise since the manager told me a few weeks ago that empty shelves don't make them money and if he didn't get any XD in the next few weeks he was going to put other toys there. He is an XD fan as well. He said whenever he asks about XD he is always told there is no product to send him.

On the bright side, I bought the 32x artillery support set with the Priest for $15. It's pretty sweet.

So far I've managed to hold out for the pending 1:18 pieces that I really want, such as - well, most of the items due out this year and into next! Something new will hit soon....
