Small Scale Military Headquarters

I think most of us display our toys in a number of shelving combinations.

I've been uising commercial metal shelving in my bunker but I'm moving to a new hpuse and will have one and a half rooms for toys. I am actually starting from scratch and have a decent budget devoted to shelving.

Since My displays will be in the house proper, with no more bunker, I need ideas for shelving that doesn't have the commercial look. Some of my 1/6 buds use a shelf system from Ikea. Reasonable and not bad looking.

Can you guys tell us, or better yet show us what kind of shelves you prefer; wood? metal? plastic? and if it's a "system", who makes it.

I know you guys will not be shy in showing us how you keep your toys and dollies. You show me yours, I'll show you mine when I'm done

I use Ikea IVAR system myself, I like the feel of wood over steel, you can also have a bottom row you can even have a bottom row of cabinets to hide all your odds and ends.



I use the deep shelve which are 50cm x 80cm.

Thanks Spud, but just checking, I find the IVAR system is not available here in the U.S.. Closest available store that carries IVAR for me is in Canada and the system isn't that nice for me to make the eight hour trip.

Does look nice though. I'm lookoing at the IKEA GORM system. They have 20" deep shelves for my 1/6 toys and dollies and 1/18 aircraft and 13" deep shelves for my 1/18 stuff.

I'll go with GORM if no better ideas develop.

The GORM is sold here as well, but it's a far more agricultural looking furniture system, OK for sheds, inside cupboards (where mine are) or out in the garage, but not so nice looking for inside. The selves are also slatted and not solid which can limit the display area and are ideal for letting things fall though, they are also less rigid and can tend to sag and bow over time.

The IVAR products are not listed on the Australian IKEA web site, however my local IKEA does carry it, I know this as I was there the weekend before last to get some extra shelves and they had plenty in stock, including black pre-painted items. So I'd suggest that if you have not already done so call your local store and check availability directly with them.

I got a bookcase from WalMart. I like the look of the fake wood grain over particle board. The faint smell of formaldehyde gives it a biology class feel.
