Is it just me or do the screws they use to put the wings on these XD's the cheapest known to mankind? Every time I put a plane together I manage to strip our round out the phillips head. I went down to Ace and got a exact match for the head and no matter how much time or care that I use I still bugger it up. It makes me want to grab it and throw it as far as I can. Anger management would work real well when I get this way. Or they should make better screws

Try a little soap on the screw threads. You may be putting too much torque on them while its trying to cut its own screw threads in the plastic.

The damage is done. I will try that on the next one.

Yes, I had that same provblem of messing up the head of the screw. You really have to have the exact phillips screw driver not to tear up the head.

I have never had a problem, and I just use a cheap universal screwdriver.

The trick here is to press down on it, and not let it slip. If it slips, it WILL strip the head.

Try using a brand new phillips screwdriver.

It's important that the tip of the screwdriver is sharp and crisp. If your tool is worn out it will slip when torque is applied and booger up the fastner.

It is true the fastener material can be somewhat soft. Care is needed.

Um, I don't mean to insult anyone here but you're sure it's a Phillips head screw and not a Pozidrive head? And it's a Phillips driver not a Pozi driver?

As well as having the extra bits in the "corner", Pozi kit has a different slope angle and the driver from one setup makes a horrible mess of screws from the other... (Having said that, I have managed to use a penknife blade as a "field-expedient" cross-head screwdriver before **NOT recommended** so a major factor will be the material you're trying to get into - and the softer plastics are just about the worst thing I've used self-tappers on for quite some time!)

Does anyone remember the Series 1 21st stuff from 2002? The box included a small screwdriver for the parts that needed assembled. Now hows that for customer service. I wonder why they stopped? Lower the cost of each unit I guess.

I have the TRU exclusive Series 1 P-51 & Bf-109 from 2000/2001 and the S1 Corsair, Stuka, and P-38 from 2002, however, I don't ever recall them coming with a screw driver! The only items you needed one for were the Corsair and the two halftracks.

I baught an exact size phillips to do the job. I guess these two meat hooks (hands) aint working right.
