Storage after removing from box.
Since we are getting a few large 1:18 aircraft and some of us don’t have room to display all of them. Including my self, What do you do to store them after you opened them?

Save the boxes. If that isn't an option, you might want to consider some type of plastic storage tub. If you can dissassemble a bit, you could probably fit 2 planes in one of the underbed storage boxes.
I use regualr tubs for my armor and figures.

I save most of the boxes, but recently, with my attic filling up rapidly, I have begun tossing some of them. I now mainly save the boxes for my older, TRU-era XD items, special edition releases, and a few of the newest items that I like. Many of the boxes for planes & vehicles that I know have gone to every Wal Mart in the country I have consigned to the recycle bin.
As for the items that cannot be displayed, I rotate them through. The stored ones are either placed assembled or partially disassembled in my bedroom cupboard and closet, with the remainder being hung in my attic. There has not actually been any damage to the pieces in my attic from heat or cold over time

Build a work shop and put them in the attic.

Since I don't collect too many planes, I have enough room to store the armor, figures and playsets that I have complete with boxes.

I finally dumped all of my boxes after getting fed up with them filling my attic. To be honest, I don't know what I will do to store them as I have my opened planes scattered all over my room at the moment (17 in all!) and the rest (about 20-30 or so in boxes) in the basement and attic. Add the 14 vehicles in the room as well and it's a tight fit!

I built a simple loft in my garage and keep the bulk of my collection up there.

Actually, we just finished adding a room to the house. My wife and children think it is our new family room. I haven't had the heart to tell them yet, but.... heh, heh, heh

Get some $8.00 Sterilite storage bins from WM that have the latches on top plus styrofoam packing peanuts. I use the shallow bins and I can get one or two planes in depending on size. I only put planes next to each other, not on top.
Put some peanuts down on the bottom of the bin then take the plane apart as much as possible and put it on the peanuts. Cover with more peanuts to the top of the bin so it cant rattle around. I use peanuts for shipping stuff I sell on ebay so I always have some on hand.

I usually cut off the ups (in hopes of having something like Flagg Points for GI Joe) and throw the bowx away. They are usually dented, smashed or broken into anyway from the store. On the special editions like the Pudgy (V) & Sky Captian for example, I keep those stacked in the background, I also keep all of the AT boxes boxes because they just look cool.

Keep em. Need them when the items are not displayed.....and this stuff will get broken if you throw it in a plastic bin.

I keep all my armour boxes....tanks, trucks etc. I throw away all airplane and helicopter boxes. There are just too many to keep them all. But going through several moves it is really nice to have them believe me.

I haven't removed any of my planes from their boxes yet, no space for display. But I have experimented with Diecast cars and m BBI Sherman box with some success.
Remove item and display base from box.
Fold box as flat as possiblible
If plastic base is all lthat is eft, tie to flat box with yarn and store in large box or on shelve..
If you have cardboard lining and such, I found most of them are taped. Cut tape till it can be flattened too and tie to box and base with yarn.
You can fill a large box ot container with many of these.

Thanks a lot guys for the Info
Sadly I don’t have the boxes any more except for all of my AT items.
Now they have great boxes.
For the rest of my 1:18 Air Force, I will have to get Plastic bins.
