New Halftrack Decoes... Where From?

I'm by no means an expert... What are the decoes and markings on the new German Halftracks from? Any particular theater of operation, or just sort of generic?

I'm not overly familiar with all decoes on armor from the war, so I'm not sure what's "Ambush" and what isn't, etc...

I was just curious since I'd like to know who to place with what Halftrack. I'd hate to have a cold weather German on a DAK Hanomag of course. :)

You can date the following Half-tracks by scheme:

Grey- 1939-42, East and West Front
Pioneer Wagon- 43-45, East and West Front
Stuka Zu Fuss- 44-45 West Front (Ambush paint sheme)

Hope this helps!

Thanks Teamski, that certainly does help me place these with the right figures... My main goal ultimately. :)

The Pioneerpanzerwagen has the unit insignia for the elite Panzer Lehr division, which puts it in the same unit as the S1 Panzer IV. That unit was operational in the Normandy campaign as well 8)

actually, the S1 hanomag has a green overspray on the grey, which really makes it post mid '43, when the three colour system came into being. Initially many grey vehicles were just given a quick paint job of whatever of the new colours was available. In the case of the S1 Hanomag, it would have been a green pattern over the grey base coat. This would also confine it to the Russian front as nothing much was going on in the west at that time and by Normandy all vehicles had been repainted in dark yellow base; although it could've been seen in Italy in '43 too, i guess.

The Stuka zu fuss has the ambush scheme, as Ski noted, which places in post July '44. Most ambush painted vehicles were seen in the West, although some were also in the East...the two fronts were getting kinda close together by that point...heh. The problem is that very few Stuka zu fuss's served in the West. The vast majority of them were on the Eastern front, where the ambush scheme is not terribly representative. If you want to make a more representative Eastern front zu fuss, take the rockets off the ambush halftrack and put them on either the S1 grey/green one or the S2 'white 13'...this is very easy to do. That also solves the problem of the missing front machine gun of the ambush zu fuss. You can then use the ambush zu fuss for other things, like towing a repainted pak 40, troop carrier, custom drilling etc etc etc.
