XD Vietnam figures-switching heads.

Post by ParatrooperCarbine » Wed Dec 29, 2004 7:20 pm

Hello all. I need to switch heads on some XD Vietnam figures. Actually, someone else switched the heads and I want to switch them back.

Problem: I have no experience and no customization skills. I am worried that if I go into this blind I will break them.

Has anyone done this before? Can you let me know what to do and not to do to switch them without harming them?

Thanks!!

I have done it in most of mine
if you aare just replacing Nam heads for other nam heads it will be no problem. just pop them out hard and push the new ones even harder in.
if you are replacing with diffeent heads it may take a different technique depending on the brand or type f figure.
I hope this works.
take care,

Boil the figures in hot water, then pop the heads out, works like a dream.

Thanks! I'll try it this weekend. If anyone else has tips for me to avoid ruining these hard-to-find figures, please let me know.

Thanks!

Everything you've been told is all you need. Just heat the figure up with hot water (even runnign it under scolding water from the spicket while wearing dish gloves will soften the figures more than enough to pop the heads off easily).

Let the heads cool so the pegs become firm again and then pop them into the bodies. If they're giving you fits, heat the BODY up and it'll pop right back together for you. No fuss, no muss. Simplest part of customizing my friend, especially with XD.

You get into other toy lines though, and there you'll see where the old "boil & pop" can get tricky, namely with Star Wars. Their figures are becoming more and more like XD in their construction though... It's cheaper the way 21st & BBI do it generally.

Now Hasbro, make us some Head Sculpt & Endor Uniform variations! The new Rebel Fleet Trooper gets the JJ Seal of Approval Though!
