I want that as an RC!

But it doesnt really say if the engine and radio are included, old interent RC trick, you think you can just slap the wings on and lets go, but it comes with no engines or radio. :(

A bit expensive too :(

I finally bought one of these. Got it for $70 off the original retail so i couldn't resist.

I've got my mini guns and gatling cannons all ready to go. :)

Aferg, you really, really need to pick up a digital camera off eBay - to show off your air force.

It would be cool if you could rig it to drop a whole bunch of those plastic army men with the parachutes out the cargo door! :P

Scale?

Post by parrish333 » Fri Aug 17, 2007 10:36 am

Aferg - are you slipping on your limits for what's close enough to 1/18? Isn't this ~1/22 scale?

J/K - it looks like a great piece. Certainly not something that the 1/18 manufacturers are going to do, and it's so large that the difference in scale won't be as noticeable.

What are you going to use for the mini-guns? Marauder? The version with the 20mm cannons would be sweet too, but those would be harder to customize.

yes, time has beaten me down, so i have become more compromising on scale.

I find that i am far more tolerant with drifting on scale with aircraft than i am with armour......probably because many aircraft are so big...

I figured as you did that the c-119 is so big that it will still look pretty good and since there is zero chance of a 1/18 version, in fact there are hardly any r/c versions around as it doesn't seem to be an overly popular aircraft, i went for it.

As for guns i have some old new ray mini guns that look pretty good.....all i will be able to see is the ends of the guns anyway for the most part. I have some 20mm gatling cannons too, which i accumulated over the years from chap mei, or new ray or somebody like that. Again, they're not 100% correct but they're not bad.

if anyone is thinking of getting one of these, there are 5 on ebay for $119....that's $10 less than i paid and $80 less than original retail. These things have been around for a while now and i don't think there are too many left; so if you are thinking of getting one, now might be the time.

my c-119 arrived today. Looks good, nicely finished. Has clear cockpit windows, which is a nice bonus. Converting it to an AC-119 will make a nice Fall project.

I am just waiting to hear that you have custom built an RC AC-130 Spectre, complete with modified CO2 pistols for functional armament...

Aferg, how does it compare to your B-24?

(Please get a camera.)

it's about the same length but the b-24 is spanier. Remember the b-24 is pretty much dead on 1/18 and the c-119 is about 1/22, so in spite of being a larger aircraft it looks about the same size as the b-24, smaller in span.

All that said it is still BIG and looks great. Once fall comes i'm hoping to doll it up with a nice SEA paintscheme and add the guns. :)
