Hey guys I'm looking for someone to help me out here. I got another new tool Mustang, Ridge Runner III, and I remember some of you saying you fixed the bent prop blades on your Mustangs. Well I forgot how some of you did that so can any of you guys who fixed them help me out? I fixed my first new tool Mustang by replacing the prop from another 1/18th Mustang I used for scrap parts but I dont have one of those now so I need to know how to go about fixing the prop on Ridge Runner III. I posted the same question over on the Custom Mods section and I hardly got any replies so if any of you guys can help me out here I would appreciate it.

I can't advise about 1/18, but perhaps my earlier experiences with smaller scales might apply.

First I'd try, very gently, bending (while fully expecting a break). Should/when the break occurs, I'd then engineer, using scrape sprue, rods, epoxy, whatever is at hand, even superglue + accelerator, to rebuild, sand, etc, the joint. With the 'stang there is a spinner to hide this work.

Applying heat is an option. The main concern there is how does the plastic used for 1/18 stuff react. I'd also be careful to insure only the area concerned is subjected to the heat.

Not much help, I know.

MM, when you swapped your blades did you keep the correct 21C spinner or did you leave the bbi one? There are a few mods suggested so it depends on which you prefer. One suggestion,

"I was able to pull the whole prop off the plane, this assembly comes with the chin scoop. It was hard to get out, but the bottom of the fuse openned up enough to get it out. The spinner is two pieces held together buy a screw that also hold the prop assembly to plane. With the front part of the spinner off, I cut all four blades off. I then glued the front and back of the spinner together, filled the crack, then sanded it smoot so there is no gap. Then I drilled holes in the bottom of each prop blade, and holes in the spinner where the blades will attach. I then glued metal rods into each of the blades. I repainted the spinner yellow and silver, then glued the blade rods into the spinner. It looks great..."
and
"I usually solve this by using a razor saw and carefully going about half way through the base of the prop where the hub is. I then pull it forward until it begins to break, by this time its just about straight I then fill the sawed gap with gap filling super glue. the prop is then straight and as strong as ever."

Hey digger,

When I replaced the Petie Prop I used the BBI prop spinner and all which was a mistake because the new tool Mustang spinner is dead on correct. I wont make the same mistake twice. Thanks for the idea on how to fix the 21st Mustang prop and I will do this tonight. I hope everything turns out good.

Prop blades are fixed and look very good. What I did was disasembled the the spinner and carefully removed the blades one by one. I then cut the knobs off the bottom of the blades that were hidden by the spinner and reglued them in the correct "forward" position, or straight position. Now a good looking Mustang got even better in my opinion.

I thought it was gonna be a tough job but I should have known better because I have done more tougher jobs building models. Now its onto shortening the landing gear which is going to be pretty easy and adding some other bits and peices that my Mustang needs to be complete.
