WWII Navy Aircraft

Post by Quixote511 » Wed Dec 13, 2006 5:18 am

I am not a swabbie. I feel that with the Corsair, Avenger, and upcomming Hellcat that the US Naval aviation from WWII is fairly well represented, except for two planes. A Wildcat and Dauntless would round it out. But after that, what of any not is left for the companies to produce?

I would love to see a Wildcat in 1:18th scale. And if they could figure out a way to make that cool landing gear work in 1:18th scale, that would be awesome. :D

Yeah it's gear might be tricky. I'd like to see one of the late war, escort carrier based Wildcats. Cool little plane. A Dauntless would be sweet as well. Slow But Deadly! How about a Brewster Buffalo! Just include a pilot who looks really pissed off about being in the cockpit!

This is what I mean. Other than a Dauntless and a Wildcat, what are we missing when it comes to Naval Aviation from WWII? When I reflect on that, I think we have it pretty good. Now, we just have to hope someone steps up to the plate and delivers these birds.

Well lets not forget the Helldiver for the US.
Kates and Vals for Japanese.
SwordFish, Barracuda, and I think Fulmar for the Brits.

Along the lines of the OS2U Kingfisher, one cannot overlook the J2F Grumman Duck. Bring on the SB2C Helldiver or even the PV-1 Ventura---I know, I've brought this one up on the twin engine "dream" list on another post :D 8) .

Wow DV. Hadn't heard of the Ventura but I just looked it up and was very impressed! Beautiful looking bird and the pilots seem to have loved it's performance! I'd gladly buy one!

A few more Japanese aircraft would be great......Nakajima "Kate" and Aichi "Val", for the Pacific Theater.

And most of all more British aircraft which could perform in both Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.....Bristol Beaufighter, Supermarine Seafire, Hawker Sea Fury, Fairey Swordfish and Fairey Firefly!

Cheers

Thanks for the words....my original post regarding the PV-1 is on page 4 of the 1/18 scale posts: "why not wish for a PV-1 Ventura?" is the title. You will get a charge out of what the guys say; great suggestions!

Don't forget the Tigercat! The make the most awesome sound flying overhead. Very unique. Bearcat is awesome too though. Imagine if the Navy got them a year or two earlier.

The Wildcat's gear would be a lot easier to do if it were done with removable gear. A stiff static pair that can be removed with closing doors and fake slash half wheels showing. Operating landing gear would be a task that would never hold up under the first time that it is moved.
