If you get the PAK, do yourself a favor and get a set of crouching Germans from Dragon 1/18. I bought these at least 4 years ago and they finally have a home.



Yes, they have cartoony heads, but the poses are perfect. A little weathering and they will look great!

Those do look good Still, my XD Germans are more plentiful and I'm content with the crew for my Pak.

yes mine have been waiting around for years for something to do as well...until now. They work perfectly.

Can you still buy these Dragon figures? They look great with the Pak.

Ha. Yes they're still around. I see them on ebay from time to time, usually going for pretty cheap. Once people start catching on to their usefulness, pak-wise, that may change though.

you might also try toy federation they still have some... $6+ per figure so ebay might be worth investigating...
hmmm... come to think of it I could use a couple more...

Gunnery crews didn't wear their entrenching tools while manning the gun....it was bulky and interfered with movement.

I'm just remember what my grandfather told me, vet from 1937 to 1945(Career NCO in das Heer, Poland, France and Russia) and from his photo albums I inherited(shows alot of smashed armour, debris and wreak aircraft along alot of personal photos of members of his Platoon/Company/Battalion/Regiment.

Btw, don't take most "internet" photos are the real combat photography. alot were staged after the battle action by the WP.r(Wehrmacht's Propaganda Department) or Goebbel's RMVP(Reichsministerium Fur Volksaufklärung und Propaganda). It's still hard to tell what was taken by a german soldat and what was taken for use by the state.

Plus you have training/rear shots, which everything is more orderly and relaxed..verus shots from units on manuver/frontline duty which are more chaotic.

PLUS now, you have doctored reenactment shots that are done to look like 1940s photography and tried to be passed off as that. It's not a huge percentage of the photos out there on the market, 60% or higher now since there is a demand for them are just copies of originals or Soviet archive material that show "after-battle" shot of equipment and such.

A few Battle of the Bulge shots from the German side, are now well known to have been staged by WP.R(Shows german troops crossing a road, one with a captured M1 carbine)

I've used the BOB Germans as my gun crew and they work great! Although, if I can get a hold of those Dragon figures, that would be a nice addition as well.

Nice photos MK, pretty much exactly the way I've got mine set up..

Tonight I tried to replace my Dragon crew with the new D-Day articulated figures (thanks ost! ) and it just isn't the same.

Two main issues are the boots (you pretty much turn them sideways and hope no one looks) and the hips/knees. They'll bend but not anywhere near as much as the "fixed" dragon poses do.

This is what has made me a fan of the Dragon figures.

As for them wearing the entrenching tools, either way your setup looks cool and for some things I think it depended a _lot_ on how long the position was in place. Those things had wheels for a reason! Not always time to get cozy..

If you haven't already done it, the various gear pops off of the belt fairly easily. They are modular and similar to 21st Century, they just added a bit of glue.

Either way, looks great and nice find on the period photo..

Aint that the truth. My friend had a saying that seems to fit, "Anything can happen in a battle, just because its not documented doesn't mean it didn't happen"

At the time, he was defending my XD setup at work from a "WWII expert" when I had the S1 Jeep Driver and Kubelwagen driver fighting each other with shovels just for fun (ala Star Trek's Amok Time).

Have to say using the DML 1/18th work a treat with the Pak40

Now I`ve got all my DML 1:18 in pieces so when I do secure a Pak40 I will have to assemble my guys back up again

Superb idea & it does seem like these DML figures were Destined to be with the Pak 40.

That's what I did Ja. I ordered a complete set of the Wiking Division, and Digger hooked me up with a few more. First thing I did was take em all apart and start with a pile of pieces to assemble my gun crew. The toughest thing was to sort out the best looking heads and finding the right arm combinations. I'm sure I have the enlisted/officer arms and torsos mixed up, but the poses look pretty nice.

The Dml figs really do work well with the Pak40! The pak40 really does look like a nice piece of gear!

Just ordered some of the DML figures from thetoyfederation myself. These will be the first I've ever gotten. My BoB Germans (sans coats) do work quite well as a gun crew, but the Dragon figures just look better with their more realistic poses and truly compliment the excellent sculpting 21c put into the Pak-40

Do 21c and Dragon heads switch easily?

Dragon heads do not have a bulb at the bottom of the neck so you may need to make a modification. I'm glad to know I converted someone at least?
