Did the Avenger in the south pacific use rockets?
I figure some of you aviation experts on here could help me with this question. Thank you in advance for your help.

I know for sure that rockets were used in the PTO. However, I am more familiar with them being fitted to the Corsair. I don't know that much about the Avenger.

yes for sure. The Avenger spent much of its time in the Pacific being used for bombing missions, ground attack etc. Only a relatively small percentage of its missions were for torpedo bombing.

what is the likelihood of an Avenger stationed on a carrier having rocket that is not being used for sub hunting.

In the PTO, quite likely I would think. The major anti-sub ops were in the Atlantic IIRC, while the PTO was involved in destroying the enemy fleet and island hopping. With island hopping involving very intense ground support.

I saw a video a while back that showed Avengers supporting marines. The Avengers were using rockets against Japanese positions. I don't remember where I saw it though.

Avengers did use rockets. I saw a documentary about Iwo Jima and they showed Avengers firing rockets at ground installations. Also Avengers DID use torpedos and quite often in fact. They were used in duel bombing and torpedo missions. Such was the case at Midway and the Marianna's campaign also known as the Turkey Shoot. The Avenger was a very usable fighting lady because of the fact that the SB2C Helldivers were considered troublesome and hard to handle. One pilot has said that the 3 most dependable airplanes in the Pacific during world war 2 was the Avenger, Hellcat and the Corsair.
