Just a heads up to those of us who don't mind some of our vehicles being slightly out of scale. Heng Long will be releasing a 1/16 R/C version of the Panzer III L to the US and EU sometime in the next 3 months. Past prices have been competitive with 21st Century AFV prices and the photos look pretty good. Here is a link to photos and a review article of a pre-production piece.

According to the review some of the reliability issues of the earlier Heng Long vehicles have been addressed. It will also have an aluminum barrel which should look a lot better. I'm planning on picking up a few of these when they do hit the market. Sounds like they may even have a StuG III and schurzen in the works for the future.

Wow, the Strumtiger looks very nice.

I want to be in line for that.......not no stinken paystation....Wow
That would fit right in with our stuff, nothing close to it in our 1/18, so scale shouldn't be a problem.

i thought you found the size difference between 1/18 and 1/16 annoying?

When you're talking about a 1/16 Strumtiger, it's kind of like talking about a 1/16 Elephant. The vehicles are so large to begin with, that placing them in a setting with 1/18 Tigers and Panzers, not many people would notice.
Placing a 1/18 Panzer IV next to a 1/16 Panzer IV........then you have a scale difference people would notice.
My M-26 in 1/16 is in amoung my Shermans and other 1/18 stuff and who's to point that out? Only you Aferg and the rest of this board, but you guys just don't come over anymore

speaking of 1/16 tanks, does anyone know about this 1/16 Leopard II. Not the Tamiya one, though i gather it's a knock off, made by Hobby Engine?

The running gear is real bad, take a look at the sprocked for example. The gun tube might be a little short. I think this is supposed to be the earlier 120mm cal 44 rather the the current cal 55, but it still looks a little short to me.

i suppose it's accurate to scale other then that? I was hoping it would be a bit small (ie closer to 1/18 ).

Other than that it looks good. It is noticeably larger then the bbi Abrams and fits in well with the other 1/16 stuff.
As far as the scale difference, I keep the 1/16 stuff on a separate wall from the 1/18 and it seems to work fine.

Any news on other 1/16 armour releases for 2007? Trumpeter? Tamiya?
I'm expecting that there will be a KV-1 by Trumpeter eventually and maybe a 1/16 Ferdinand too. Tamiya i think might be good for a Merkava.
Any news? I'm starting to not mind 1/16 armour so much, now that i have a bit of it..

Ack.. You guys have me slipping into 1/16 world...
I have almost surrendered at this point and my fate would be sealed if someone could post a side by side of a 1/16 with a 1/18 Tiger I (or whatever)...
Might only take a photo of a pershing, bulldog, T-34 or any 1/16th tank with 1/18th troops/crew around it..

Looks like they have just started arriving. This guy has several available but his price seems a little high compared to the other Heng Long stuff. I'm gonna wait for them to come down in price and arrive in the US.
