Small Scale Military Headquarters

A friend of mine sent me a picture of a real Corsair painted exactly like the BBI Marines Dream Corsair. It even has the Marines Dream art on the nose. Has anyone else seen this plane? I would post the picture, but I just can't figure out how.

After doing some more research, I see this Corsair has been in the airshow scene for awhile. It is a Goodyear built FG-1D Corsair. Very cool.

Yeah, this was known when pictures of the bbi Corsair first surfaced. You will also note that the S2 paint scheme is also an airshow paint job. When the plane first came out, a big discussion ensued about why bbi would opt for such a scheme instead of the real thing. Some poeple believe it has to do with licensing of paint schemes from the WWII pilots themselves.....

Also, there is the whole recognition factor. People can go out to an airshow and see Marine's Dream all across the country. Unless you are really into the aviation thing like most of us, how many regular folks would recognize a true paint scheme?

You know, I was flipping through the Osprey Corsair Aces book, and noticed a plane with a Marine's Dream girl on the cowl, but the Corsair was an early model birdcage version, with the earlier lighter blue paint scheme. I wasn't sure if the girl painted on was the same, either. But it was interesting to see that name was really used...

Just looked it up. The Birdcage Marine's Dream belonged to VMF-222

I believe that's Ken Walsh's plane named Marines Dream, and the BBI and flying example both have Walsh's name as the pilot. I've seen the warbird at several airshows this season, and at a few of the shows, they have a little table set up with merchandise, and you can guess what they have been selling.
