21stcenturytoys P-47 Razorbacks (1:18)

Post by Jay » Sun Aug 27, 2006 8:27 pm

Just something I've been wondering, but what is the quality like on those planes. Been looking at getting one of the 21stcentury razorbacks for ages. I seem to recall people saying the initial production runs weren't as good as later ones, is this correct? Are there any obvious flaws with the razorback models? (ie undercarrage wheel size etc) Any insight would be a big help!

The very early XD P-47 Razorbacks had canopies that weren't designed to open, but that was corrected on all subsequent releases. The plane looks good, but one of the biggest complaints was the oversized cockpit and canopy. Yes, the P-47 was a big plane, but the 21c example oversized the cockpit just a little too much. Compare a picture of the XD plane to a photograph of an actual P-47 Razorback and you'll see what I mean. The instrument dials also were not painted and there is no gunsight.

Another complaint was that the main landing gear were too short when extended. This is true, however, on an actual P-47, the main gear were hydraulically extended, which is something 21c couldn't do. Had 21c made the landing gear in the full extended position, then they would not retract into the fuselage properly.

Overall, it is a good plane and there are some neat paintschemes offered.
