Your All time Favorite Corsair.

Post by MightyMustang » Wed Aug 02, 2006 2:01 pm

Hey guys heres a question for ya all. So far whats your all time favorite Corsair released by 21st or BBI? Mine before it took a fatal nose dive was Marines Dream by BBI. I know it was fictitious nose art and so fourth but I thought it was a beauty. Hopefully I will get another one soon by a member on the board. A close second would be the Bunker Hill Corsair by 21st due to the awsome job they did with the paint scheme.

So guys whats your favorite and why?

This is just to have some fun so fire away.

I like the "Marine's Dream" as well. Yeah, its a fake scheme, but it looks real enough and the detailing and weathering are excellent! The BBi Corsair is the best out there.

My second favorite (and its a very close second) has to be the Boyington Corsair made by 21st. Given that Pappy Boyington was a friend of my father's during his last years in Fresno, Ca, I have sort of a personal connection with that plane!

HEy guys, overall which one has the best features? I know the BBI one is the newer one but have never really seen the 21st one up close, I know its got the bunker hill scheme which I like, but so far seems like the BBI one will make me happier. Any suggestions? Which one looks the best and is the most durable? If the BBI one's got moving flaps and rudder and all I will probably pick that one up.

The Bbi VMF115 “Joe’s Jokers” is my favorite probably because I had the opportunity to meet him in person in 2002 :) , he passed away in New Year's Day 2003 :(

The BBI one by far in my opinion. Not only for the things spoke of above, but for the pilot alone. He is prbably the best WWII fig out there. At least the best pilot so far. A close second would be the BBI P-51 pilot.

I really like my BBI Corsair. I am big fan of the tri-color camo on the Corsair. I agree the pilot is first rate, and he looks good in the Corsair cockpit.

A new tool Corsair from 21st? I have to say this and thats that 21st will really have to outdue BBI to beat the BBI Corsair release. I dont see 21st redoing the Corsair for some time because they have to much on their plate already like new Avenger and P-51 paint schemes plus other unknown goodies that might come our way down the road. Like maybe a Hellcat? God only knows BBI wont do one so why not 21st?

Sorry guys but because of the Hellcat thing BBI has fallen out of favor somewhat with me.

Bunker Hill Corsair

Post by JimBob55 » Wed Aug 02, 2006 8:18 pm

My favorite is the 21C Bunker Hill Corsair (Kepford a real close second). I do like the BBI Corsair and I have one. But to me, the sum all of its great details don't add up to a whole. IMHO, the 21C version (all of them) is a cleaner representation of the Corsair than the BBI version. It must be the artist in me, but the 21C just 'feels' better.

The VF-84 and VF-17 paint schemes are spot on in accuracy, as well. The Boyington Corsair was accurate, but for an airplane he only sat in for a photo.

I dont have any Corsiars, but I see that the BBI Corsair's wings are wrong. After the bend down, the wings bent up at a small angle, BBI made the wings straight after the bend down. 21st Century Toys has the correct wings.

Ah I dont know what BBI Corsair you were looking at but the wings were spot on to me and spot on with pics of Corsairs that I have. My vote for best Corsair is BBI and thats not saying that 21st's Corsair is bad because it aint but as far as detail is concerned and accuracy BBI is almost spot on save for the markings on Marines Dream.

Now when it comes to the new tool Mustang? Thats a winner and heads above the rest baby.

The BBI Corsair's wings are flat horizontal with the ground right?
If so, that is wrong, when looking from the front, after the bend down, the wings bend up slightly, In the BBI Corsair, after the bend down, they stay horizontal.

The wings on my BBI Corsair don't bend down too much; they certainly are not horizontal!

My favorite is the 21C Bunker Hill Corsair
I have a brand new one that I have not even removed from the box and I agree it's one of the best looking. My biggest complaint about the BBI Corsairs (or any of their birds for that matter) is that the canopy plastic is sort of cloudy looking, no big deal I suppose, but it does not seem to be a problem on any of my 21C birds.

I really havent noticed the cloudy appearance. Maybe when I get my new BBI Corsair I'll have to look at that.

Tman, I think we are talking about different things.
If you look from the front of the Corsair, first the gull wings bend down, from the body, then they bend up to be hoizontal with the ground, in the real Corsair, the wings bend up at a slighly higher angle, not horizontal with the ground.

Can I upload a picture from my HD somehow not using photobucket or the like?

No - you need somewhere to host the photo.

As for the cloudy canopy a few people have said that about the bbi Corsair and Killer Mustang but I thought there was some home remedy going around?

I have noticed that on both of mine and I think it is a problem, a problem that I can live with.

Yep, it's called Future floor polish...an acrylic based floor wax sold in most grocery stores. I've used this many times in the days when I actually used to build models and it works exceptionally well, producing a hard, crystal clear finish. However, there is something of an art to it... the key is not to over apply the stuff, and it dries rather quickly, so you don't have all day to fool around with it. The good news is even if you fubar it, it comes off with a mixture of warm water and household ammonia. I suggest a milk run on a similar piece of material if possible. Cheers,
