WWI Planes (again) Please!

To All,

I post this about once per year and everyone typically jumps on the band wagon and agrees it would be great to have WWI planes with all the great pilots and history behind them. The movie "Fly Boys" is coming out someone must have the rights? They'd be smaller than the WWII and later stuff with a gazillion re-paint options? So what do you say Jason, Roy and Mike anyone want to break away from the crowd and RISE to the top (a little flight humor there) or are you going to shoot the idea down in flames? Comm'on guys jump on board!

Thanks
Scott

P.S. I can here Jason already sharpening his pencil......Hmmmm interesting?

I, too, can HEAR Jason sharpening his pencil......WWI airplanes are probably a whole lot easier to tool and manufacture than the more complex WWII-types, and other era birds. The possibilities are very exciting. Let me draw up a poster and join boyx30 and the small, but hopefully growing, "picket line" for these early birds.

"GIVE WWI BIRDS THEIR WINGS" or "SET THE EARLY BIRDS FREE"

etc., etc.

....or as Richthofen said: "Just call me RED" (very unofficial, of coarse :))

Okay 3 members is a start! Obviously there are more than 3 deep history buffs that realize the value in keeping WWI aviation alive! But we need a gimmick! The A-10 guys have the hunger strike...so maybe we can go on a feeding frenzy for an Albatros? Jason only you can keep me from eating red meat and beer and tacos and pizzia..okay not a good gimmick too much motivation to fail.....okay how about no more Friday night oil wrestling..nope! ...sorry that one stays.........Ummmmm yard work! yes I will not mow my lawn prune my shrubs or rake my leaves until Richtoffen is straffing my desk top and Goering is once again eating a turkey leg in the cock-pit!

Seriously folks these pilots and planes hold so much value in both history and childhood memory someone must consider them as a real sales value too!..Even the most unaware person recognizes The Red Barons Triplane?

I think WWI aviation has some potential. Personally I would LOVE to have a DR1, SPAD, CAMEL, anything like that. It would certainly be an interesting project to tackle.
A little risky but who knows...

I say make em!

I would have some interest-especially if the planes were with historical pilots and included a brief history on the package.

Thanks TKO and DocTodd for joining the club,

TKO you said a little risky? Do you think it would be more risky than WWII or a specific plane say ME-109? My thoughts were the risk would be about the same as current items...but i'd love to hear your thoughts please expand on it. Bounce it off of Roy (just what he needs another 15 planes to tool!) but we'd love to hear his thoughts too.

DocTodd absolutely..include the figure and history..heck if they did the WWI in 1/18th and the planes have the same moving parts etc...I think they'd be winners and guess what you'd have more space since they're smaller......

Jason I know you're thinking about it......imagine running around your house making machine gun noises and swearing in english with a german accent at some bloody brit..............oh of course you are holding a WWI airplane too!

thanks

Risk? Are you kidding, imagine a dad and kid walking down the isles and see a bright red triplane with the aces package and reading about the red baron, and then the next plane is the camel decked out in roy browns colors

The Spad and D-7, have them all in the aces package, a little history as well.

These planes are small, I bet you could get 2 inside an box similar in size to the exsisting 1/18 boxes. There's your combat set...

Andrew I too noticed this?.....Not enough taunting?.... or hitting too close to home?.......HHHHhmmmmmm you make the call.

My gut tells me he's just busy but I'd really like to hear from all of the "directs" on their thoughts and Jason in particular just because he appears realistic and a regular guy......

Jason don't make me start rumors about you and Amelia Erhart and a love child!....

We love you buddy but..(see above)....you know this is a good idea so the pressure is on

hhmm?

What are you trying to say about TKO & Mike?

I could be cajoled into picking up an Eddie Rickenbacker mount. Ok--I really would like one and it would take no convincing for me to buy one. It would be sharp. I think these planes hold an appeal to the general know-nothing Wally shopper.

Thanks Digger!...now I'll be banned for life from BBI and 21st century!

actuall in reference to Roy and Mike (TKO is one of us in my eyes) Roy communicates through TKO but he is indirect and Mike is very elusive, a mystery, an enigma or Aferg's alter ego? ...but Jason well just between you and me I think we can sway him to do our bidding.....I'm thinking of sending him beer and Omaha Steaks just to soften him up.

Sure, WWI planes were my first aircraft passion.

That could easily be re-kindled by some 1/18 offerings and I'd probably wind up buying several of each.

This is fantastic!....Keep throwing fuel on this fire!!!!!........

Admiral, BBI and 21st Century and any up coming company are you noticing a common thread here? It looks viable, it looks potentially profitable and at this very moment you'd have virtually no competition! He who strikes first wins!

Jason you dreamed about this last night didn't you? The smell of gun powder castrol oil, the feel wicker seats and fur coats while you chased an enemy biplane at tree top level under a bridge at every pull of the lever shattered splinters of wood and fabric come rushing back at you as you taunt and tatter the enemy only a few yards ahead. He twists and turns in vain hopelessly trying to avoid that fatal burst while cursing you with a leather clad fist.....the moment comes...then silence....all you can feel now is the cool wind on your face and say say a silent prayer for this fallen noble warrior an enemy yes...yet a brother... a Knight in the Sky.

Whew!......I'm hooked...thanks Jason! when can we expect the first release?
