Panzer IV Pre..........

Post by normandy » Thu Dec 02, 2004 6:23 pm

Thanks KWR, I've been looking  for this tank in 1/18 th for some time now. After hearing 21st might make one I went out and picked up a few books on the subject. To me the Panzer IV was the main work horseof the Panzer forces and there are many variants one could make customs of, so bring them on!!!!!

Pzr IV at SBP

Post by digger » Thu Dec 02, 2004 6:54 pm

I saw that a couple of days ago but I sure as hell am not pre-ordering from them.
A) They put up things for pre-order they may not get for a year - see Tropical 109
B) They are often last to have something "in stock" - like the modern figures.
C) There will be plenty to go around
D) It'll probably be cheaper on ebay after someone finds a stack marked down to $6 and buys them all.

That said I'm getting a bunch by whatever means necessary. I just don't want to commit to any one dealer at this point.

Oh, and Normandy - it was THE workhorse so get ready.

Pre-Order

Post by normandy » Thu Dec 02, 2004 9:11 pm

Digger, I hear you I never pre-ordered stuff. If its in stock I'll go for it. This hunting all over the local Walmarts Stinks (I thought I'd be nice).
As for SBP half of my xd air craft are from them (some gifts and some I've ordered) oh and Battle of the Bulge Germans arrived in 3days. All of which were in stock. So for anyone thinking about pre-orders, an online store may get the product in a week or much longer in the case of the Tropical Me 109.

Is it time to bash SBP again?

I have delt with them numerous times and found them to provide an excellent service to us collectors. Shipping may take a few days longer, but I get what I ordered. SBP listings on eBay are high priced but most don't attract bidders. They will learn in time to price stuff to move it.

Their customer service is erratic (three calls on a broken windshield) but once I got the right guy, I had a replacement part in a day & a half.

Pre-orders insure you will get the item someday, but then we ALL get what we want someday!, if we deserve it. Must we all be the first on our block to have the new toy?

Whether or not we like to deal with SBP, perhaps it is a good thing that the Panzer IV has appeared on their site for preorder. Why? If they are showing the tank for preorder, then perhaps it will be carried by other, more reputable small retailers, and save some of us from running all over to various Wal Marts only to find nothing!

TTT, if you look at the SBP thread - I defend them. I don't have to be first on my block with anything; you know living in the city we're usually last to get anything cause we have no WM and the stuff arrives on the west coast. My point was I have about 50 days off a year, which means limited time for me and my XD. In turn, it's nice to get the new stuff 2 weeks sooner rather than later, that's all.
Now as Normandy said, back to the topic at hand THE PANZER IV. It will be a joyous day.....

Surely some other dealers will carry that tank.

Workhorse indeed! It might not have the glamor of a Tiger or a Panther, but it was one hell of a tank. Can't wait to get one!

Every transaction I have had with SBP (about six) has gone well and I have gotten my purchase in less than a week, every time.
On the other hand pre-orders generally suck with everybody although I have never pre-ordered with SBP. If you pre-order with a credit card you don't have to pay until they ship- so what's the diff? Just don't pre-order by sending money....

Do we have anybody at 21c that will talk to us?

Why haven't any other dealers mentioned a pre-orders on Panzer IV?

Brings up the old discussion on a connection between SBP and 21c (re: the telephone # for service being the same). Could the Panzer IV be a SBP exclusive?

And final question: Is this Panzer IV in 1:18 the same item mentioned earlier this year as a possible 1:6 new release? Could that mention of the 1:6 Panzer IV actually have been referring to the 1:18. Sorry, that's two questions.

Too many questions. It's hurting my head. Excuse me, I have to go watch movies to honor Pearl Harbor. Remember Pearl Harbor guys. Now I need some aspirin.........

I believe the 1:6 tank is supposed to be a Mk III, not a Mk IV.

The issue of SBP having the MK IV is probably 21st spreading the wealth.

1/18 Panzer IV due out first quarter of '05.

There is no panzer III or IV in the works for 1/6 scale.

I'll take a MK III or IV in either size and be glad :P

Is the only difference the turret (size of the gun), or am I wrong?

That may open a new area of armor for us, that is different models of the same basic tank. I'm still hoping for the posibility of AA tanks, either US or Axis built on the same chasis. I hope, I hope......someday.

My final question would be why arn't we seeing other online vendors offering to pre-order the Panzer?

Sorry, I forgot that some guys on the 1:6 boads seem to feel the 1:6 Panzer is total fiction.

Like I have said before, as long as it rolls on the ground, I'll take it and be happy.

The 1/6 panzer III has been seen in prototype form, a couple of years ago but 21c has no plans to make it.

The Panzer III and Panzer IV are fairly different. The P III has a shorter chassis with only 6 bogies per side (and 3 return rollers) the P IV is about 2 1/2 feet longer and has 8 bogies per side (and 4 return rollers). The P IV is a bit wider too. They do look similar at a glance.

Armament for the two was quite different and far more variants were built from the P IV chassis.
