Admiral F-86e "Jolly Roger"

I would like to get your thoughts and opinions on the Admiral toys 1/18th F-86e Sabre "Jolly Roger", what do you guys think? Is it on par with the best 1/18th aircraft that 21C and BBI have to offer?? Thanks,

Admiral has fixed most if not all of the first run problems and issued a 2nd batch of planes with the modifications.

I have a first version plane and love it!

OK thanks razor, I will do that. BTW, would you think that most of the planes we are currently seeing for sale at places like e-bay and the various online retailers are part of the "second batch" or what??

The 1st batch of planes are gone. They were all the preorders that the online retailers had.
It would depend on who was selling the plane to you. But I would think that most now are the 2nd batch of planes.

If you buy one now and it has plastic over the plane in the stryofoam insert - it is a 2nd generation plane.

To answer your question, I think the aircraft - especially considering its a first release for a new company - is very much on par with the BBI and 21c offerings. It has excellent paint and sculpt detail and has alot of moving parts. It is also very sturdy, more so than most 21c aircraft. My only gripes are the horrid pilot figure, the lack of deep intakes/exhaust tubes, and the reduced amount of cockpit detail. However, when my plane is displayed hanging on the ceiling, one doesn't notice the cockpit detail very much or the intake depth. My hat goes off to Admiral Toys for producing an aircraft of such great quality - and I eagerly await future releases.

I concur, it is definately right up there with anything else put out! I am thrilled with my pair. It's a hard choice: get one or wait for 21st. That's your call. However, I am very happy I grabbed mine!

As far as the pilot, I hollowed out the O2 mask and glued it to his face! Now he looks fine, hehehehehe....

Thanks for the feedback guys, it's much appreciated. I wonder if the cockpit detail is somewhat improved in the 2nd release?? As for the intake/jet pipe depth issue, if this has not been improved in the 2nd release, then I think some flat black paint carefully applied to these areas would go a long way toward giving them the appearance of more depth, what do you guys think??

I have the 2nd edition plane and I really don't think that much has been done to it except for some plastic wrapping around parts of the aircraft for transport in the box. The shallow intakes aren't that noticable as they are already painted flat black.....

I used a spare F-104 pilot I bartered from my local Hobbytown store after their display plane got trashed when they moved the store. The helmet visor has been painted white and I added the BBI goggles for a more "1950s" look. It's not entirely perfect, but looks much better than the AT pilot :D

Nice job on your pilot substitute. The original AT pilot was very sad.
I think AT will do better in the pilot department with the next plane they come out with.
