21c Swastika decals questions

Post by aferguson » Tue Nov 30, 2004 9:17 am

Has anyone received a German plane made by 21c that has come with swastika decals? If so how are they for size, registration, adhesion etc?

Also, is it only dealer planes that come with the swastikas or do the WM ones have swastikas now too?

They look good they look like the ones Lair sells. The one you get from 21 is a little nicer I think. Same size and they stick good they are water decals.

They came with the Fw-190 I got. Unfortunatly... they are VERY VERY suseptable to any slight wind. I had positioned it and everything, and had painted on Decal set... so there was a little tiny drip of water, so I just barely did a quick little light blow and bam, the decal was gone. I never could figure out where it went.

I Have applied these decals from 21st on all of my stukas. They are professional high grade decals just like the ones that come in model kits. They are manufactured sheets not hand made or inkjet.

does this mean the WM planes don't come with swastikas? I'm thinking ahead to the 109G. I'd rather spend a few more dollars and order it online if the WM planes don't have swastikas...

I have a neat trick for re-nazi-fying (for purposes of historical accuracy only!!).

Decals will fall off, or are ruined by a single touch, or have ugly air holes, or go on in the wrong spot unless you’re very very careful!! Getting the diagonal just right is hard as hell too. Once its perfect it will just fall off...

HERE IS WHAT I DO!!

Go to http://www.il2skins.com , there are 15000+ skins to chose from. Look up your plane, Find your favorite skin, I actually found the Identical D-9.
The files are bmp so any art program should be able to load them.

Crop the picture down to just the tail (rudder and stabilizer)

Now measure your tail on your 1:18 plane with a ruler and resize the image to that size.

Print it out.
Carefully cut out the swastika only! (If you screw up just print it out again)

Hold your stencil over the tail, (you might want to remove the elevators)

You’ll see the panel lines line up perfectly!!!! Showing you exactly where the insignia is supposed to be!!

Tape the stencil in place, (take some time to get it to lay perfectly flat)

use black or white spray paint,
Dust, IE: spray lightly

in like 3 or 4 coats giving each coat time to dry a bit.

Wallah!!

Image

Its painted on, it will never ever fall off, I can hold the plane by the stabilizer and perform split-s maneuvers to deal with that dastardly d-day spit!

Looks great. I might try that. By the way, is that a fishing rod in the background :?: :D It seems that you hang them from there.
