I'm not a big fan of "The Huff" nose art, but that is one great looking model. I think I'll hold out a while longer to see what other paint schemes are released.

I was always a big fan of the Huff. I don't know how many times I built that kit as a kid. My dad would blow his pipe smoke through the nose so it would like like a jet trail as a went around the room. That was when his best fighter pilot stories came out. I am certainly smitten.

that model in 21st pix looks to me as a 1/48 Hasegawa f-86
not a 1/18 mockup

It is to show the paint scheme, not the actual 1:18 bird. You'll notice it doesn't allege to be the 1:18 version.

i like the Huff...don't mind it at all. Did all F-86's in korea sport yellow and black stripes? Seems to me a lot of Sabres had them....was it some kind of recognition feature akin to DDay stripes? I always thought they were just unit colours..

I am not a huge Korean War buff. My question is the same as Aferg. Do the Yellow and Black denote a "D Day like" Black european theatre stripes for identification.

I located this from the website shown below..
Here we would like to explain a few things to our readers familiar with the history of UN aircraft units in Korea. Black-and-white stripes on fuselages of combat aircraft were identification marks of the 4th FW, which operated F-86As. Wide yellow stripes with a thin black border were used on aircraft from the 51st FW. However, this fighter wing performed its first combat flight on an F-86 only in December 1, 1951, and before that date the only F-86s, to operate over Korea, belonged to the 4th FW. So why did Sheberstov talk about seeing yellow stripes on an F-86 in October?
It is known that in September of 1951 the 51st FW, which operated F-80s, transferred its aircraft to fighter-bomber units and departed for Japan to train on "Sabres." Just for this FW some 75 new F-86Es were delivered from the continental US. Competitive spirit prompted the pilots of the 51st FW to abandon the black-and-white stripes and replace them with yellow stripes. However, at that time the 51st FW included only two fighter squadrons, while the 75 aircraft it received were enough for three squadrons. The extra 25 aircraft were gradually transferred to the 4th FW to replace the aircraft lost in combat. The first lost F-86Es were reported by the 4th FW as early as in September of 1951 (including one such aircraft lost on October 4, 1951). In our opinion, this explains why yellow-striped "Sabres" were seen in Korea well before the return of the 51st FW. Evidently, when aircraft were delivered to the 4th FW from the 51st FW, they retained their yellow stripes. By the summer of 1952 yellow stripes were found to be more useful for quick identification of aircraft and were applied to all "Sabres" of all versions and units operating in Korea. Aircraft of various fighter wings differed only by the color of their tails.

Apparently the yellow stripes were unit specific in the beginning, and then became universal for all UN Sabres.

Well, the paint doesnt bother me much, I kind of like it, but that dragon seems a bit "toyish"
The plane itself looks amazing, I never really did like Sabre's, In fact I hated them, but the model looks great, simply beautiful, I have a feeling by the time I see this plane at Wal-mart, I will love it.

you said that you didn't really like the Sabre all that much.....he said 'you have the Sabre...say it ain't so' but he meant to say hate not have. He meant to say you 'you hate the Sabre....say it ain't so.' He accidentally typed the word have instead of the word hate.
He did not mean to say you have the Sabre.

That will be a fine looking aircraft! The nose art is a little flashy, but still should look good. I like the checkered tail as well. Now the question beggs as to whether I want to get the 21c F-86 when it eventually comes out, already having the AT Jolley Roger version. The Mig-15 will be a deffinite, however!
