small side doors on the bbi blackhawk

Post by aferguson » Sun Apr 02, 2006 2:21 pm

anyone manage to cut open the small side doors on the bbi blackhawk? (the window like doors in front of the main doors, where the machineguns would be mounted).

If so, some tips on how you did it would be appreciated.. I really wish they had been molded seperately.

Seems to me that there was someone who did this a LONG time ago and posted pictures - it may have been on the old GP board even...

I remember seeing at least two on this board. One of them even had miniguns mounted with sliding doors and was painted flat black. It looked pretty good. I remember seeing pictures of it with a suburban in front of it and the crew getting out.

If I recall, I believe those pics were posted by tderespino. I know he does a lot of nice custom work.

there was also another board member who did the custom UH-60 with the pictures of a diecast ford suberban - long time ago,,,

I am still on a spending strike..
I have not spent any money on 1/18th stuff in 8 months...I had at least a $100 per month habit.

I want XD vietnam figures. I am starting to think the Platoon line is not real..

Nice work Tom. I have'nt bought anything 1/18 lately either. I'm about to pre-order Smoke II, and hopefully an Avenger.

Nice job Tomd. You know what they say; no guts, no glory. So i guess it's no glory for me.

I've got a team fast roping from my Blackhawk; and they'll have to do it without fire support. :?

Thank's AF,, I was hoping BBI would do a "blackhawk down" version. I guess the big toy companies will continue to frustrate us.

They have however made my customizing skills better with each passing year.

Hey Tom...

Your Halo Jumpers are MAD Wicked! I wanted to give you props for those. By the way have you ever spray painted any of bbi's stuff? If so, does the paint adhere well or does it stay sticky and fails to dry? I have had some problems with that when painting a few action figures. Some dried but then 2 or 3 would not. Anyhow, like the work...

Take care

you have to use acrylic paints when painting these figures. Enamal paint, which is what most spray paints are (at least the hobby ones) wont' dry properly and will stay tacky for years.

To my knowledge there are no hobby spray acrylics. You either have to brush paint them or use an airbrush.

Thank's Rob,, I did those halo customs a few months ago,, they are combo GI Joe Spytroops and Dusty trails Halo figures.

As far as spray painting,, I use flat spray paint on the big stuff,, humbrol flat colors on the figures.

I'm pretty sure I have Tamiya Acrylics in a spray can. They're great.

Aferguson, all the fire support you'll ever need for an insertion is an AH-1 or AH-64.

Yup, tamiya has a fairly substancial line of their paints available in spray form. All of the bottles can be thined and airbrushed as well.

Ive always wanted to do that to a blackhawk, but never could quite get myself to cut up mine, and dont have a spare

I wanted to know my options because I want to Navalize a BlackHawk Helo into an SH-60... but perhaps bbi might make one in the books??

But thanks to everyone for the tip!

a Seahawk would be great. My hunch is we won't see one from BBI, at best it might be a grey painted Blackhawk, without any re-tooling. One never knows but that's my gut feeling..
