Adding windows to the Elite Force M114 Humvee

Post by aferguson » Mon Mar 03, 2025 9:36 am

It's a decent model but doesn't have any clear plastic for windows. I want to add them. I can make the clear plastic windows out of thin clear plastic sheet. The problem i'm having is how to glue them. Krazy glue fogs the clear plastic and white glue isn't strong enough and takes way too long to dry. Krazy glue also doesn't stick all that well to the type of plastic the Humvee is made from.

Suggestions?

I have thought on this many a time.
On the door windows. The easiest way would be to make the clear window about a 1/4 inch bigger than the frame and use the gold CA glue and put a drop in each corner let it dry totally then mask the window and paint the are 1/4 over lapping.
The gold glue ( thick) is designed not to fog.
The turret frames will be a pain.
My suggestion is to make a frame of 1mm square stock styrene and build a frame inside a frame so the clear is backed up. slide glass through the back then hold the glass in place with short pieces of 1mm square stock styrene in each corner to hold the glass in.

thanks for the advice. Sounds pretty tricky. I'm starting to wonder if i can learn to live without putting in clear plastic.

What about the windshield?

On the wind shield I have tried tiny pieces of clear scotch tape .
It works .

that's interesting......i was thinking of using little bits of stickers. I remember years ago when the Chap Mei C-130 came out it had no windows and was made of a type of plastic that nothing glues to. I saw a video where the guy cut clear plastic for the windows and held it in with bits of the stickers that came with the plane.

My only concern with stickers or scotch tape is the durability of it......will the tape let go in a few weeks or months.

Depends on the tape, sometimes it bonds to the surface and almost impossible to get off unless you use a solvent,

can you recommend a good brand of scotch tape? That seems to be the best way to go.

I use plane Scotch tape
Try not to touch the sticky side of the tape .
The oil in your fingerprints will take some of the sticky out of the tape.
Stick the tape to a piece of glass make your cuts , pry up an end with your knife and apply.
