It was not used in WWII and was used by the South in VN; we (US) had started to move on. I would have sworn I've seen a pic with one winterized sitting in post-war Korea somewhere but I haven't been able to find it.
Someone should have more on this...

m41 was never used by the US in combat. Only the south vietnamese army and the lebanese army have used them in combat, in fact.
There are unsubstantiated rumours that the US sent one or two to korea for tests during the conflict but this has never been proven. Since the US rarely used winter whitewash in korea the picture digger is referring to may well have been taken in the arctic, where several m41's were sent for trials and were given white finishes.

Then why the heck was this tank created (even though it is a pretty cool tank)
when more popular tanks could have been created.
does the turret come off on this tank?

Turret does come off.
Has anyone ever came across details of the South Vietnamese M-41s holding off T-55s during the fall of Saigon? I've heard reference that the M-41s actually outdueled them, but haven't ever found any details.

After learning the history of the tank, why 21c created it was also my question. Still, its one of my favorite 21c tanks (right behind the Tiger) and is one of the best overall 1:18 armor pieces made to date

turret comes off and the interior is detailed, just like with the tiger.
Yes, why they made it is a bit of a mystery (they also made one in the 32x line)....why an m41 and not a pershing, for example? But they did it and it is a very nice model. It looks like it COULD be a US WW2 tank and i'm sure alot of people are happily battling away with it, being none the wiser about it's actual history..

Maybe the owner of 21st liked the tank too!

He would have a little pull as to what is made I would imagine.

That's a cool tank, and any 1/18 scale tank is welcome, I remember freaking out at TRU with I saw the Patton tank.

I remember the A-Team episode where they drove a M-41.....they used the main gun to flip Colonel Decker’s jeep. There was also a episode with a Sherman.

There was a Republic of Korea (ROK)Armor company near me in Vietnam and they were armed with M-24's and M-41 Bulldogs. Two really neat tanks and passing me on the road at high speed were awesome.
Not for nothing, the old "Combat" TV series used an M-41 quite a few times as a Tiger, and at least once it was the star of one show where the tank driver is nuts and holding one of the squad prisioner in the tank while he tears up the countryside.

This is probably one of 21st Century Toys' most detailed tanks! All of the engine hatches open to reveal the most detailed tank engine yet! If not the only tank engine detailed, yet.
It also has more opening compartments of any vehicle to date - bar none!
We LOVE this baby, and it is definitely a MUST HAVE in our book!
Our .02 - Cheers,
