Good news if you need one, bad news on your appreciation if you own one…

I wish they made the King Tiger in 1:18 and in plastic. Their Tiger I was a decent piece and with Grunt 1's Battleground Models
aftermarket road wheels, cupola, pistol ports, air filters you could change it to an early version.

Glad to hear they're bring the King Tiger back but I don't collect 1:16.

If you have collected other 1:18 tanks, FOV 1:16 King Tiger may be not the good option for you even it looks reallllly good :P

1/18 FOV Tiger extinct...?

Post by c44 » Tue Sep 27, 2022 6:15 pm

That is a cool and thorough new makeover that the new King Tiger is getting, and with only around 1000 being made at a price of around a grand, I wonder if the old ones will lose too much value...but we know buying stuff as an investment in the crowded hobby collectible market is a little dicy, if you're counting on a return you might be happier with something less chancy---like your typical hedge fund (OK, I exaggerate) :)

Also agree, Normandy, the FOV (Bravo Team) Tiger was a basic but nifty piece of work...FOV have said they didn't buy the 1/18 figs from Unimax so it's probably overly optimistic to hope they own the molds for the 1/18 armor or have any interest in starting something up in that scale (and with their focus on providing champagne-quality new product they would probably view the old Tiger as box wine) :D ...but they still show up periodically on e-bay and generally move when not priced too ludicrously...

Today's Motorpool email:

FOV's new 1/16 King Tiger will be #222 from the Battle of the Bulge.

"King Tiger heavy tank will bear the markings of SS-Oberscharfuhrer Kurt Sowa’s mount, which was attached to 2.Kompanie, schwere SS Panzerabteilung 501, Kampfgruppe Peiper, then deployed to the Ardennes Forest during December 1944. They enlisted the aid of several industry experts to come up with this choice, which will purportedly come with four riders from the 3.Fallschirmjager Division. Presently, its not clear what other features will be included, although they are making a concerted effort to reduce the pitting shown on the first two Unimax King Tigers as well as ensuring all of the parts fit as advertised without fear of breakage when being attached to the vehicle. It also looks as if the newest 1:16 entrant will fetch close to $1,000 and a smaller chunk of change to ship it within the lower 48 states. Better save up!"

It will be interesting to see how it will look, Tiger II 222, Schwere Panzer Abteilung 501, Ardennes, December 1944.

$1,000 is a little high in my book.

King Tiger #222 was also filmed carrying a bunch of German paratroopers. It was knocked out near the Stavelot bridge by an M10 tank destroyer. Dragon released a 1/72 #222 with paratrooper figures.
