Is this made by BBI? How new is it? Is it based on a real boat?

It’s modeled after a navy seal SWCC boat. Not a bad representation of the actual craft with the exception of the surveillance drone and launcher.

ah ok, thanks. Not familiar with it. I thought BBI was long out of making 1/18 figures and vehicles. This is clearly a more toyish product but still not awful.

I agree, I may do a conversion to make it a bit more realistic sometime in the future.

there are some pretty groovy new Navy Seal boats around. the Combat Craft Assault, Medium and Heavy. Wouldn't mind seeing toy boats of those made, though they would be woefully under scale, no doubt.

The ProBoats R/C Alpha Patrol Boat is 1/18 scale and a great representation of the Vietnam era PBR which often ferried the Navy Seals. I have one on display in my hobby room which always draws peoples attention.

wow, interesting news. I've checked around and it's out of stock everywhere now, so it looks like I missed the boat (pun intended). :)

Definitely! It’s an excellent model and a lot of fun as well. Had fun flying my roughly 1/18 (450 size) RC Seawolf UH-1B Huey alongside it.

I’ve got to agree with the comments on the Pro Boat PBR model! I got one when they came out in 2017 and it’s a fun model. It is perfectly 1/18 scale and both the first series and later/Platoon series of 21st Vietnam figures look great on it. It needs some extra detailing/painting to really bring out the details, but is quite nice as is. It’s also quite fast on the water using a miniature version of the same type of water jets as the real thing!

And B-29, lovely shots of your PBR and RC Huey! I almost thought you’d converted a 21st Huey to fly 8)

Thanks guys! The RCs are tons of fun. Pretty much completely switched over to them after around 2013. Still try to get models that end up around that size range when I get the chance though. I did actually consider using a 21C fuselage, but they are heavy, and were hard to find at the time. No videos of that Huey unfortunately, just photos. I do have a video of my 500 size Huey. Slightly larger, but much more detailed:

Cool vid! I half expected to see the crew scramble out the doors after it landed! :)
