I have always wanted to know this but why is Panther tank commander is so small? That figure really gets on my nerves.

The first series of tanks and planes had smaller figures to help them fit in the tank better.

yeah I know the drivers for the jeep, K-wagon and AC pilots fit better, but why the tank commanders? It not like they had to sit behind a steering wheel. I don't beleive the Tiger commander small, or was he?

The tiger commander was scale. Get ahold of one of the new BoB tankers and use it in your Panther to have a full size figure :)

My tanks are waiting for their full size crews if only they'd report in my AO. :(

The first series tankers were new recruits from the OZ self defence force of the yellow brick road.

I kinda thought the first series figures were a little more in scale some of the new figures look like giants.I have not really checked the scale only by looking at the german panzer1V figures standing against the tiger they look a little big does any one else see this?

Some of the XD figures may be a little on the large side, though most are pretty much on scale. Some vehicles (someone correct me if I'm wrong about this) were probably a little underscaled, whiles others were sized correctly. The XD Kubelwagon and MB Jeep were perhaps like this.

Well, most of your recent XD guys are going to be at least 4" (6 feet tall) - which is a bit big, especially in the case of the Japanese.
The first series US are just under 4" - pretty much spot on scale. That said, 4" works too but with the commander's cap the Tanker is like 6'5" in real life so he would look big next to the tanks (not saying he should be this big, just that he is).

On a side note, with the way you can switch bodies on the new bbi guys, you could get a platoon with guys of varying height. :D

When you place the Panther and Tiger commanders side by side, it looks like a battalion "Take your son to work" Day. lol

Well, I guess the little commander could be a Hitler Youth... Children did alot of the fighting in the 3rd Reich's final weeks.

Yea though another way to look at it is,the smaller S1 figure adds to the height range when making up a crew for a panzer :D

Of course reworking the head a little but either a snot nose teen or just a short guy are perfect options :D After all we all know that height restrictions where dropped when manpower was needed moreso.

That`s how I do it with mine. It`s nice to see a crew of varying heights :D

Just wish more Panzer uniform (Black wrap tunic & Black trousers) figures would be released moreso with the added articulation to them :D

The least they could do is come up with extra arms with the sleeves rolled up or something for the current tanker. Mittens aren't convincing on a DAK tanker..

flpickupman,
As for DAK panzer crew, hey maybe IF ever someone brings DAK troops out they`ll do DAK Panzer too???

Though the different arms sounds a great idea (rolled sleeves & long sleeves) too :D

See? That's the question. They have the tooling and molds, why not take advantage of the repaint potential like they do with the airplanes? That would also allow for the prices to maybe come down with increased volume. Or even run an all plastic version of the IV like they did with the tiger. I don't know how many I would buy if they brought it down to Walker Bulldog price levels. It seems as if they're finally starting to get the idea with the RC Panzers.

There's a DAK custom Panzer IV on ebay made from a 21st machine.

It would require very little to convert the current model to an F2. It would for the most part require using less parts rather than more. Heck, they could even offer an F1 just by making different gun barrels. I've swapped enough of them to know it's not a difficult switch.

That`s a pretty niffty DAK Panzer MKIV :D

Well as for ALL plastic MKIVs they have done that with the Euro Exclusive,so doing it again though minus all the skirting you`d think would be easier & doing a new crew too, using say the S1 Panzer figure or even better new sculpted DAK Panzer crew :D

So they have no excuses there,it`s just down to insentive on there part I suppose.

A new Panzer crew sculpt makes a lot of sense. I've seen an awful lot of photos of crewmen not wearing winter jump suits. Especially in the ETO. Not just North Africa. Heck, I'd even settle for the same heads on new bodies. I'm using them for swaps anyway.

Well all we can do is keep suggesting this & HOPE 21st if not even BBI Pick up on this :D Hell a BBI Panzer crew range, now there`s something :D
