S3 Version of the 21c R/C Panzer IV Tank???

I came across an RC Panzer IV at a Wal Mart in my area today that aparently has different markings than what I've previously seen. The tanks have actually been there for at least a week, but because it looks similar to the S2 variant (and ships with NATO cammo RC M-113s), I didn't take immediate notice. Looking at it today, however, I noticed it is different.

Instead of the 3-tone cammo of the S2 version, the S3 camoflauge more closely resembles that of the European version of the non-RC Panzer VI (tan base with darker brown spots). They most certainly were not the S1 version. The markings on the turret schurtzen are exactly the same as this Panzer IV profile taken from Teamski's album:

The 21c Version DOES NOT have the schurtzen on the sides of the tank and has the different cammo scheme as described above. This would potentially compliment the S1 version, as they are from the same unit.

Has anyone else seen this latest version of the RC Panzer IV?

Well from where I`m sitting,yes I`ve got 4 MK IVs (3 normal & 1 Euro) but I`ve yet to get a R/C one.
Just means the more varients they churn out the easier it will be to get one

The number on the side is 122 with the bear in front. Let me know or I need to look for another Panzer version. That would make five different version for the Panzer. Thanks

I saw this new version at Fort Hood (Killeen, Texas) this week. It was on a top shelf so I thought maybe I was just seeing things and then you guys mentioned it here so yep, it is a new version. Now I wish I had taken the time to find a latter and get it!

Thanks for the webshots pics, as those clear up the mystery! The tank I saw looks identical to the European Exclusive Panzer IV, save that there are no side skirts included and the paintjob is weathered better. Same numbers and insignias on the turret. I have the #122 version, which was the first in the series, and I know this wasn't it. As I explained earlier, I had initially overlooked them as I thought they were the S2 #834 version. So now we have an RC version of the Euro tank

Yes, different markings, though aparently in the same unit. The tank you have pictured above is the S1 version of the RC Panzer IV. That was the first Panzer to appear when these first showed up on the west coast. The S2 version (#834) showed up later, starting in the east.

The tank I saw looked exactly like this:

Tthe European Exclusive Panzer IV (picture from momaw nadon) but without the side skirts, figures, and its more heavily weathered.

Great that they came out with another PZ with the siding. Now if they can only release one without the RC stuff.

It doesn't have the siding unfortunantly, just the same paint scheme as the European version on the plastic RC Panzer IV. I agree, however, that it would be nice to see some of the RC Panzer IV paintschemes released as the non-RC diecast tank.

Re: how droll...LOL, yeah, if you watch one spin long enough you'll get dizzy enough to forget you just shelled $50 for a defective pirouetting dervish (panzerballerina, anyone?)...if anyone picks up one of these, please report if the QC issues have been resolved...my S1 crapped out after about 25 minutes of operation, giving me fun & games at --- let's do the math --- 2 bucks per minute...

Did it? Mine's still going strong, even minus the turret.. lol. I bought another S-1 though that I have yet to drive. It's strange that this tank seems to be more poorly assembled than the first. Should this one prove a lemon, either way I'm good, cause the first hull runs fine.

My S1 version still runs great as well. (I was just running it last night, and on soft carpet to beat). There were a number of reports of defective S2 tanks, however.

There were a number of the S2 RC Panzers that had broken bogey wheels. Most of the ones I saw were fine. I can't really say if there was a particular series (S1-S3) that ran better than the other. My S1 version is still running fine, save that a gear tends to catch when making a turn, but it still runs well. By and large, all series of the RC Panzer seem to have run fine, but as with any mass distribution of a mechanically complicated toy as this, there can be problems occasionally.

I don't want to start a war here,..but I took mine back to Wal-Mart for a full-refund because I thought it was basically,..junk. It did'nt have the capabilities I thought it might. It's performance was poor. Maybe I'm just spoiled. Get a Tamiya like I did. Now your talking mechanically complicated,.. but trouble free.

HAHAHAHAHA !! ...........I love my Tamiya KT,....and now I'm thinking of getting the M-26 Pershing to boot,...but this 21st.,I took back just kept going in bloody circles, no matter what I tried to do,..to correct it,..and the cacophony it made, was unreal.

Ahhhhhh well you do know if you put your BBI Para (with John Wayne head on) in the middles of the circle the panzer did,that would make a LOT of sense

Picked up one of the S-3 RC Panzers, and I am quite pleased. It feels a bit better assembled than the first one that I bought, and that's saying something. I ran it on deep pile carpet, and only got it to throw a tread by running it one tread off the edge (it's an area rug) and turning the tank back onto the carpet. That's about a 3/8" to 1/2" curb so to speak. I also did not experience the gear clicking that I have with the first one when the treads did something that the gear box didn't agree with. Another difference is the way the drive sprockets are attatched. No longer with just a screw. Looks almost like a threaded bearing or something. I'm not familiar with the methods used, so I don't know the correct term. Paint is good, performance is nice as well. Still runs too fast for scale though. Also retains that silly occilating barrel device. All in all, I'd give it a B+. Certainly the best RC Panzer yet.

Oh yeah. Anyone done or planned a custom Panzer IV? I have a spare RC hull just sitting around that I'd like to do something with. Something hopefully not too complicated.

any one fix the slipping gear thing in side th panzer. i have the left tread slipping like crazy and does any one buy the m113 what rotate on that troop carrier.

) I can concur similar results in the performance. I ran it on the soft carpet in my bedroom and it was able to run quickly and turn without the internal gears skipping (and making that popping noise). My S1 version of the RC Panzer (turret #122) was never able to turn w/o the gear skipping on this same carpet, even when brand new. 21c must have done something with the drive wheel. My NATO cammo M-113 also runs well on the same terrain.

To answer Black Dragon One's question, I have the S2 M-113. Mine runs quite well on the soft carpet and terrain in my backyard. It moves a little slower than the Panzer IV. There is no motorized turret turning on the M-113, you have to move the commander's turret by hand. I customized my M-113 by removing the little "cup" on the inside of the commander's hatch and the blockage under the large deck hatch over the crew compartment. I then placed a piece of cardboard, painted black, inside to protect the circuts and then included some BBI figures polking out of the crew hatch, as well as a commander in the turret.
