Small Scale Military Headquarters

Has anyone ever done that conversion before? I'd like to try it but the curved canopy seems daunting. Does anyone have any ideas what can be used or how to fabricate it?

The canopy could be made using vacuu-form, but the cowl extension/slimming and wingtip extension would also be a task..

if you're going to try it i would suggest that you get a Card Model of a Ju-87D/G. It will be 1/33 scale but all you do is enlarge photocopy it to 1/18 scale. That would give you all the templates you need to make the cowl and the wingtips. It would even give you a rudimentary template for the canopy, from which you could carve a solid master and vac form.

Another idea for the canopy is to make a rough mock up of it, so you can guage the size and shape, and then go to a store and look through all the products with clear bubble packaging, hoping to find a package which has a section that is about the right size and shape. Then you just cut it out and paint on canopy framing. I suspect if you're patient and somewhat tolerant you could find bubble packaging that would do the trick.

I have been working on this conversion for some time now. Haven't came up with a good idea for the canopy yet. I just may try aferguson, idea. Worth the shot, since I have gone this far with it. I may finish my tank buster yet.

I've been searching for alternatives to vacuforming since i don't have a vacuform table and came across this:

This seems like an easier and much cheaper alternative.

Here's another alternative....Take the old canopy and sand it smooth. You can then use it as the "plug". Reshape the canopy using card stock or whatever material you wish. Go to Squadron Signal on-line and look for "Thera-Form" clear plastic. You heat it up over a candle and stretch it over the plug. It cools rapidly and retains the "plug" shape. In my experience, it comes out a little frosty colored, but by dipping in Future floor wax several times and letting dry for 24 hours, it comes out crystal clear. Use a little strip stock for the frames and you have your new canopy.
