I hear a 2nd preorder from a certain company we all deal with consists of more than 500 planes, does this refer to another upcoming batch or what???

i think the very limited release of 500 is going to be the unpainted version, is it not? I believe Jason has already mentioned that it would only be made in small numbers..

He actually said just 100 unpainted, but that might have changed.
When you say new plane in 8 weeks, do you mean Admiral? We have seen their Zero so I assume only a matter of time?

Not the zero. I dont know what plane it will be but thats the info I have.

Jason hinted that there is going to be a new, new plane announced.....remember the 'short list' discussion in the AT thread. My guess was an F-100 but everything on the list was certainly impressive....my assumption was that it was not going to be an A6M5 (which was also on the list).

AT look like they mean business..

Hi,
How hard would it be to turn an F-86 Sabre into a Super Sabre?

The F-86 Sabre and the F-100 Super Sabre are two completely different airplanes. I believe that they do not share a single component or structure. The only share the name because the Super Sabre was built by the same company and was the next plane built after the Sabre.

In these pictures taken from some internet sites, you can see the differences:

T-man, that's a fantastic picture of the F-86. I just can't get over how beautiful that airplane really is. Thanks for sharing! :D

That was back when they designed aircraft on a drafting board. Now they are designed by CFD simulators and radar reflection calculations.

The same thing has happened with ultra-high performance cars

The new aircraft and cars are technical marvles, but we will never see the truely beautiful shapes from the past.

I hear you Tman. That's exactly the reason why I find the Boeing 777 so unattactive. It was totally designed with CAD technology.

Bad Cat released new pictures of the F-86. I really like what Admiral did with the windshield and canopy. It looks Soooo much better than the first prototypes. Well done!! I can't wait to get mine!

Oh him? Yeah, he's a backseat driver!

I don't know why the seat was installed like that. I will definately be moving it up!! I surprised that BCT didn't mention it in the gripes section of the review.

..........also, pray for a carded F-104 pilot!!!!!

As mentioned above, Admiral did a great job improving the canopy. Here is one of the photos of the original prototype:

Compare with the current version:

Not too shabby!

Now to work on relocating the seat! It's going to take some major re-engineering.

Teamski,
Glad to see you dug up my original photos of the F-86 prototype. :) The revisions to the production model look good.

Only because I have to sit in front of a tube all day do I have to comment on this. Its not because of CAD that everything is so ugly, I think it more has to do with the designers and aerodynamisists. From the aero side, their job is to make the most efficient configuration, who cares what it looks like. As for the designer, do you know what would happen if they said, when questioned about a vehicle's shape said, "I did this so it looked nice."?

I think the only chance of seeing "pretty" aircraft in cars and planes is small firms, like what Rutan did. You need to be in an enviroment willing to be a little more "creative"

Anyone else notice the problem with the ammo access doors? They should extend back into the leading edge of the wing. Like this...

Image

Admiral took a bit of a short cut and made them smaller to avoid getting into the wing on the model. This pic also shows how much higher the seat should be.

Didn't notice the ammo doors, but the seat certainly must be corrected. It it is a seperately attached piece in the cockpit assembly, then it can be corrected.

Looks like to me that the ammo doors do extend into the leading edge (on AT's model).

I did notice however there are six rivets missing on the right side of the fuselage.

;)

Now, now...the rivet counters are people too....and they keep the models sharp.
