Small Scale Military Headquarters

With all the equipment that comes with any XD soldier, sometimes, ok, most times I have no idea where some of it goes
Sometimes it's also hard to keep this stuff in the 'holes'. I'll go to pick up the soldier and some of it pops off. Hard to find it in the carpet too!!
Does anyone here 'glue' some of the equipment on? Will the figures loose their value when my wife goes to sell them after I'm dead? (As I buy them, I tell her how valuable they'll be someday)

I never thought of gluing them on. Not a bad idea.

I glue the bits and pieces on the 21st cent figures. Since I regularly pack up and transport all my 21st cent stuff for displays, it's a must. That's where the Dragon figures come into their own, no stuff falls off. Another thing I do with the bases is drill a hole through which I can put a nail to 'peg' the figure in place on grass/earth surfaces so they don't fall over in the wind.

NEAT IDEA about drilling a hole in the base!

I glue the parts on, some figures and leave them alone on others. The variety of accessories on a 21c Paratrooper, US Marine, or Japanese figures often get glued. The situation depends on what stays on and what doesn't. There was never a need to use glue with the BBI Modern or WWII figures.

I do glue on some equipment but I think the solution is to make belts and webgear which is removable - BBI started going that route with the first wave - Intoys also had removable back-packs, belts and flack vests.

My custom troops have a varity of gear,, my custom Vietnam troops have as close as I can make to the webgear and rucksacks used.

I used BBI harnes from the breacher figure, pistol belt from GI joe spytroops and alice backpack from intoys. The m16 pouches and grenades are from 21c modern figures and VN figures.

Always glue them on and use small zip loc bags to store the extra parts and arms etc. Small zip locs [ 1x3...2x5 ] can be bought at hobby shops and baseball card dealers and "The Container Store" if you have one in your area. M&M in Bergenfield N.J. advertises in Lees. You can label the bag with a marking pen and reuse the bag by erasing the marker with WD-40. Been doing this for 25 years with my Star Wars stuff. And Rylau, great idea on the Ziploc bags! Takes up less room to store 'em!

I use Ambroid vinyl & resin glue to hold my dudes gear on !

Does anyone use "amazing goop" or "crafters goop"??

You can get it at many hardware or craft stores, I use it on all my XD custom's. One of the greatest features is that it never gets totally hard. you can remove stuff easy and re-glue or rebuild.

Like Tomd you can use the BBI harness & also make your own using elastic (pref the 1/6th weapons strap).

Also if up for the challenge you can also make Assualt vests & Chest rigs like these.........



I have made some with velcro fasting (the thin version) & some using the smallest 1/6th clips I can find.

Also you can make USABLE cloth backpacks too by using 1/6th pouches that fit the bill. Add elastic straps or BBI one`s & there you go

Personally, I glue everything, but usually I pull everything off the figure first to see what can be cast and used to outfit other figures.
I'm a big fan of the modern BBI figures because all the little chest rig pouches and stuff were separate molds and glued on during production. That makes it easy for me to pull them off, cast a mold, make copies and add sweet pouches to other 1:18 figures. I've even used some cast copies of BBI puches and some thin strips of vinyl (or cut up BBI belts, who's parts also ended up being cast) to make drop-down leg pouches for BBI modern figures.
Currently have no photos, maybe I can get some while home on leave next month...
