Has anybody already commented that the new box for the WC-51 has a nice pic of the Avenger on the side of the box??

Can it be true?? Soon??? Or just smoke? I've been waiting so long for the Avenger that I think I forgot why I like it so much 8)

if it doesn't come out in the next three months it will have taken 21c longer to design and deliver their 1/18 scale version of the Avenger than it took Grumman to design and deliver (to operational squadrons) the real thing...

Yeah, some already did comment on that, or at least they did for the box of the new hummers which also had them.

Last friday when I picked up the new Stuka repaint, it had the Avenger, retooled P-51, silver F-104 and "Seeman" BF-109G on the back. The F-104 is already out at some Wal Marts as well as the "Seeman" BF-109. Just the fact that its on the box signals a ray of hope!

Now, while I would like to see the Avengers at Wal Mart due to the nice price they would sell for, I really want them to go to the small retailers first. I have this fear that should the Avenger go to Wal Mart, then it will have the limited distribution that the F-104s and BF-109G repaints have thus far had and half of the people on this board will be seeing the Avenger restocked and on clearance while the rest of us drool! OK... my rant is over :)

i'm not sure the Avenger is going to WM at all. Last i heard they couldn't fit it into their beloved box and as such that pretty much ruled out it going to WM. However, things may have changed since then and since WM is starting to get a variety of 21c box sizes on their shelves it may no longer matter that it doesn't fit the standard box..

So where in this "size of box" idea comes the 1/6 Kettengrad with Trailer or even the 1/6 Humvee and 1/9 Abrams. The last two are in a love/hate relationship with WM toy aisle clerks trying to move them when you grab one and demand they do a price check on the Abrams or Humvee.

I've noticed when they see me, they run to take a break because they know what I'm gonna ask them to do. 8)

Box size is a load of crap. Walmart doesn't "palatize" anything. Everything arrives at the store on the floor of the
trailer. only bulk items like televisions, dog food and potting soil get palatized. As TTT said, the larger 1/6th scale items fit in the truck. I don't care if they sell it in three peices. I WAN'T MY AVENGER DAMN IT!!! :D

I talked with some guys at 21c last week and they also said the avenger would NOT be at walmart. A sigh of relief for us online dealers who struggle to get wholesale prices that are the same as walmarts retail prices. sorry, no whining intended :D

well...

As I understand it box size does matter, but in any case we can all agree that WM is NOT stupid. So? So they are NOT going to miss out on the best new AC, one that is sure to get people in the stores (why they have great toys in the first place, right?). That said my money is on you will see these at WM, new box size and all.

However I agree with Tman that whenever it finally does arrive it better be easy to get...

well, i suspect regardless it will show up at online dealers first. It may eventually work its way into WM at some point.

But then again......you never know with WM & 21c..

but..

You sure don't - I think WM is 8 for 9 over small retailers on the last 9 releases:

OMG figs
S2 Japs
WC-51
2 Humvess
S6 109G
Desert Stuka
White Corsair

v. Pudgy for the little guys.

WM even got their hands on the S2 German 104 which nobody thought would happen. Again, they ain't stupid.

I always thought the thing about box size was related to cost? The 1/6 stuff is huge but it also sells in the $100-$200 range. It doesn't make sense to me that WM wouldn't carry a larger 1:18 product, unless they're trying to keep all A/C at the same price point.

As I understand it, the issue of box size is that WM has allocated a certain amount of day-to-day shelf space (width, really) for 1/18 21C A/C.

Box size DOESN'T matter for the truck or the warehouse, but it DOES matter on the shelf, especially for year-round items (like these A/C).

The R/C Humvees and the 1/9 Abrams were probably seen as Christmas items, and as such, box size was less of an issue, as the toy department is King during the Christmas season.

It's interesting that WM stocks a boatload of giant R/C vehicles and many are still on the shelves after Christmas and they are worried about a few large scale planes-give me a break!

If box size is worrying WM at this point on whether to market the product, I'm sure when managment finds out how popular this plane is gonna be, they will have a change of heart real fast!

OH, in that case I'm not concerned at all. We'll get them when the mother ship lands.

Yeah... the Avengers were on a cargo ship that was bound for California from China across the Pacific, but was diverted by Wal Mart (they are the largest multi-national corporation after all) to pass through the Panama canal to the Atlantic so the east coast could get them instead. The ship was somewhere between Bermuda and Miami when it dissappeared. That was two years ago

The very least 21st could do for us is TELL us if it will be available at WM or not. As I would not really want to buy it online due to the QC problems they have had in the past.

Straight to the point,..> "kimtheredxd" ! ....as I would not want to pay "high outrageous,.. on-line prices",..on top of the QC-PROBLEMS...as well. 8)

Plus WM has lay away so even if they hit the stores at a *money is kinda low* point you can toss one or ten on layaway

AT WAL-MART !

No doubt about it,....Wal-Mart is the best way to go to buy 21st.,stuff. Now FOV is getting into the game. .....BTW,...Nice to see your input and feed-back on the "Board",.."Kimtheredxd" ! .....Have'nt heard from you in a while. :P

Avenger and other Grummans

Here's hoping that we'll get some new and definitive intel about the Avenger from the upcoming Toy Fair. I'm certainly looking forward to hearing from our on-site scouts!

It has certainly been a long time coming, but it sure looks like the Avenger will be worth the wait. All the time 21c has been trying to work out the details and problems with the TBM may actually translate into 'lessons learned' that they may be able to apply to other more similar 1:18 offerings. If they are truly successful with the Avenger's wing fold, then that paves the way for 21c to produce a Hellcat  The Wildcat (not the earliest version, though) also had the same wing fold mechanism, although the landing gear will be a bear to reproduce. I can see a Wildcat in the Atlantic scheme as it partnered with the Avenger as sub hunter-killer teams.
