Only the 21c AH-1W Supercobra and the BBI OH-58 Kiowa have opening engines. Some of the radial engine aircraft, such as the 21c P-47s and the BBI Zero and Corsair have detailed engines visible. As to why the larger planes don't have opening engines overall, one can only guess. There are a couple planes where you may be able to custom engineer an opening engine, though. I am just happy enough to have large 1:18 scale aircraft with the detail and features that most of the releases to date currently have.

I think that's a feature we'll see more of in the future to be honest. Bbi's Zero with the removeable cockpit and the upcoming gunbays in the 21st Mustang really show that they are going for the extra detail inside the aircraft. Take into count that the FOV 1:32 line has removeable engine cowlings... so it'l only a matter of time before one of the 1:18 companies start it!
yeah

open engine compartments in 1:18 scale airplanes would be fantastic, more so if they make ground crews and support equipment: GPUs (Ground Power Units), tools, benches, fuel drums, etc.

Just imagin what it would be like to have a 1/18th Mustang with a removable engine cowling showing the detailed Merlin! Or an F4U with the same feature. Oh that would be sweet but highly unlikely. It takes companies long enough to produce and release the things they do.
