G'day Guys. This question is for Matthew. I was wondering how difficult it would be to make a conversion kit for the P40E to turn it into a P40N

. I know that there would be a major cockpit change and nose modification, but would it be possiable.?
Cheers

Ok I pulled out my trusty copy of Squadron Signals P-40 and refreshed my memory.
21st P-40 is a P-40 C
I have started on the P-40 D-E
You can see the changes I have made . Other than panel lines it needs the top long carb intake the front wind shield need to be lengthed and moved forward. The exaust stacks should be lengthed as well but this could be cheated and left alone.
They used a lot of the D's and E's in Alaska . Aleutian Tigers
P-40 F
This model the Rolls Merlin was introduced .
Visable changes were the deleation of long carb intake on top and flattning of chin on the bottom.
First introduction of the fish tail exaust on side.
Tail lengthend
P-40 K
Long carb reintroduced on top and tail fairings added to rudder giving the tail a fatter appearence.
P-40 M
Side exhaust stacks moved back and 15 hole vent introduced both sides behind spinner. A lot were sent to Russia.
P-40 N
Fusealage was cut back front center of pilot seat back to antenna post on an angle . Covered over with glass . Changes to the rest of the canopy as well.
Used a lot in the Pacific by all Allies . The Flying Skulls used them.

I still need to finish it mainly the carb intake on the top.
I was trying to make it moduler making the rear panel area different for each model series. Cut out the old pop in the new.
I made the rear rudder longer and the changes on the nose are obvious.
It has been so long that I worked on this that I have actually forgotten what series model I have made .

Axis Nightmare wrote:The L/M/N series fuselage is a little over a foot longer than the E/K series too. The rudder extends well aft of the horizontal stab. more than the E. The only real obvious visual difference in the M and later production N models is the cockpit/canopy area. Sorry to get so technical but I do get to spend a lot of time around an M model.
Yep this is the E look at the front windshield . This has got to be done.
This is the N check out the angle behind the seat . This is the actual fuse line that is covered by canopy glass.
Just behind the spinner is the 15 hole vent ( both sides )

My kitty is definitely an Imperial girl with support for the Kaiser !!!!
The reason I stopped this project is because Jack of Skyjerk infamy knew I was working the P-40 and made his to spite me ( along with the Tony ) so I stopped working on it.
Definitely if there is interest I will forge on with the project !!
