Never been much of a rivet counter, but all of these Mustang remakes
made me start to pay attention to the aircraft profiles and while looking at my warbirds today, I realized that if there was one bird that should be remade, it is the 21st Century's 1:18 P-40. Profile doesnt even come close to the pics I see on-line. It is too fat and bulgy. I realize there's probably not a lot of passion here for the P-40 like there is a Mustang, but 21st's P-40 does need some help, no?

It depends on the model letter, the 21st version is a B/C model. I think most people are more familiar with the E or later. I think 21st caught the B model pretty well but yes it can use improvement. The landing gear won't lock into place there are no moveable surfaces at all. It begs to be remade.

Thanks! I see what you mean. Just looked at the different type profiles.
(Sorry, I'm an Army guy) Its a shame they didnt make a "D" version.
A lot more meaner and leaner looking

I love the P-40! To me it has the same feel as the F-4 or A-10 I not sure why. They are not the prettiest or smoothest aircraft but if you love then you love them. You are right though a good retooling is need for the P-40

Yes, one of the 1/18 scale manufacturers should make a better P-40. The P-40E model should be made since that was the most numerous and recognizable model.

You guys see how long it takes them to get planes out these days?
I agree the P-40 is lacking in detail, but I think most people would hit the roof if they heard about a new Warhawk before a 262, Hellcat, Mosquito, Dauntless, etc... (I'm stearing clear of the modern list so not to get between the A-10 & F-4 guys.

You missed my point. I'm not trying to start a P-40 hunger strike. I'm just wondering why nobody minds these companies now building a third version of the Mustang when there are other birds that could have used the re-tool effort far worse than the Mustang. Nobody seemed to have hit the roof about all of the Mustangs being re-tooled prior to a ME262 etc so why would they about the P-40? (oh yeah, because I posted it

Well, I think it has a lot to do with redoing a 'classic' or redoing the 'one that started it all.' The P-40 is still too recent for them to redo, however there hasn't been a 21st original P-51 for sale online other than e-bay for a very long time. And, the P-51 is debatably one of the most favorite (if not THE favorite) fighter of World War 2 when you look at people overall.

Its too bad they didnt make the front nose modular. I could handle the same backend with a P-40E,F,k engine section or even a P-36 Hawk radial in the front.

Man you take stuff personally Army...
People were (and are) pissed about another Mustang - even though it is the most popular AC ever, no matter what era or industry. I agree that the P-40 would be a good candidate for re-tooling among the AC we have seen so far, I was just saying it would be a hard sell at the moment.

I'm not mad about a re-tooling of the Mustang. Heck to see 21st take an old mold and re-correct it is a good thing. A P-40 re-tooled? I say no because I would like to see a Hellcat get done instead. If they were going to do another re-tool I say re-tool the Corsair for their legends series but as its been said 21st aint gonna do it. No just concentrate on getting the Avenger done first!!!

Negative!
P-40's have too many variations from model to model.
Aside from the P-40B/C there are the Merlin powered F's
and the long tail versions
N's had a completely different canopy after the N-1
P-36 while along the same lines a different airframe.

really the P-36 would be the easiest to convert from the P-40B/C
basicly slap a radial engine on the firewall and reverse evolution would take place

How about Chennault's P-40 Aleutian Tiger Squadron? Great paint scheme, unique location, one of the more interesting campaigns of the PTO.

Yes, I've got a P-40 and, IMHO, it is the worst job 21st Century has done on any aircraft, and it should be redone. But I still want a lot of other things first; an A10, a Hellcat, the Avenger (still believe it when I see it in stores), etc., etc.

REALLY!
the 21st century P-40B when i checked it against Curtiss drawings is real close in all outlines, it just has few moving parts and the flaps are wrong
but if you watch John Wayne Flying tigers movie, all the models are terrible.
the 3/4 scale planes they taxi around in don't look at all like P-40s
and they had a real one to look at to make there mockups.
