The New York Daily News and Long Islands Newsday reported that Toys R US will be closing 75 stores,12 of which will become Babies R Us.
Check your local TrU, 3 in my AO have 10 to 30% off on everything in the store. I saw Star Wars, BBI and FOV at 10 to 20% off but no XD Merrill's Marauders. :?

Found this on another board - they said they found it from FWOOSHNET.COM

Phoenix AZ
Fairfield CA
Emeryville CA
Valejo CA
Mira Mesa CA
Woodbury MN
Duluth MN
Owensboro KY
Dale Mabry FA
Chicago, IL
Arlington Heights, IL
Lansing, IL
Bourbonnais, IL
Michigan City, IN
West Ashley (Charleston), SC
Columbia, SC
Bridgeton (St. Louis), MO
Dorchester, MA
Cambridge, MA
Medford, MA
Wichita, KS

They did not make any adjustments with their competition - Wally and Target. When TRU was offering SW figs at $6-7 while the others had them for under $5. But I'm not a business man, and I do know TRU is one of the last places I check now. But still not a good sign for us toy collectors - means less options. And even worse for those who will be loosing their jobs.

75 are closing, 12 are being "converted" to Babies R Us (just as good as a closing). Only one in Pittsburgh actually, but up here WM and Target aren't a dime a dozen either... You don't pass one every 15 minutes on a highway, so that's left some breathing room for places like KM, KB, and TRU to still compete on some level. Only one TRU on the list is being converted around here, and no closures... I was surprised actually.

Add one on Staten Island, NYC. It's too bad, it's the one I bought my first 1/6 CC in thanks to one of Centine's scouting around.

Guys - aktiger gives us some perspective -

We complain when we have to drive a few mins or hours to get to another TRU.

aktiger, in Alaska, would have to FLY to get to another TRU!!!

Actually, unless the item is small (which virtually none of the 1/18th scale is), stopping at TRU or anywhere during my travels is not an option. Even though I have done it in the past, the hassle of finding a post office or checking the item in an oversized suitcase and risking demolition by a airline baggage gorilla is not worth it. Thank technology for the internet.

I was at my closest store today, Johnson CIty, TN and spoke with the manager. He gave me some good news and some bad news. Good news was that they weren't closing this store. They were actually going to expand it. Bad news is that he had never received any Merrill's sets, never received any BBi WWII Infantry, and doesn't have any BBi items scheduled to be shipped to him in the near future.
